Word of friendly advice, from a recruiter from way back...

You need to talk up more than having clean water at your clan if you want people to join. ;)

At least if you have booze, or sheep, or something...

It's not the 1800's, running water isn't really a luxury item anymore. :P

FoCuS!!!

That's right, unfortunately my run a solo in reincarnated UNITED and then UP last set has finally come to an end.

Honourable mention to some clans that I considered joining last set, some of which aren't even around anymore, but I wanted to mention...

KA, Mars did an effective job of recruiting me, and for a while I thought I would end up here. I'm sad that they're gone, because although they stirred up too much fluff for their own good sometimes, I bet they had a lot I fun.

IMP, KyleCleric, and by extention his clan have earned my respect. I want you to know that I genuinely considered your offer to join.

Swordz, I know that they're not around anymore, and I'm very sad at the dissolution of this clan. I have almost no ties to the Swordz from years ago, nevertheless I considered joining here simply because I consider your conduct over the past two sets honourable.

SOTA, many people don't share it, but I've always had a soft spot for Shi and her clan.

Dragon, you and I would get along pretty well... If you ever need a new home...

I just wanted to put that out there, and announce where I'll be playing from now on.

I am very interested in these changes.

Have I mentioned how refreshing it is to play this game with people in charge of trying to improve it on a continual basis? I came from the old school where when something needed to be changed people would scream 'Mehul!' at the top of their lungs until they couldn't scream anymore... And then nothing would happen at all.

Naw, California Games had Skateboarding, hacky-sack, Ummm... roller-skating or something, I think.

But I do remember that my copy was pirated, and when it loaded the pirate's logo came up (it was a text rendering of Darth Vader's mask) and the PC speaker actually voiced a garbled sounding "Holy fluff!". I was blown away, because such technology as speech through computers did not yet exist.

I'm not sure that I belong in the company of the best netters on the server... honestly, I'm just making it up as I go most of the time... Also, I have committed to a clan for next set, so I would at least owe them the respect of a conversation before going anywhere else for a set...

...However, for one set, I think this sounds pretty cool. I'd be willing to consider it for one reason, because I like You Dragon. I like the way you do things, and respect your outlook on the game.

Yeah international soccer on the cartridge! I had that one. The players were hardly better than a single giant pixel... The ball was a barely rounded square... Awesome.

Another great for C64... California Games!

The C64 that I had we got with the 5 1/4 drive, but I do remember when this dude I knew got the punch to notch the disks so you could record on them, whoa that was mind blowing technology.

I also had a Batman game that was way ahead of it's time for C64. And right towards the end before NES took over gaming for the next decade, I had a game called something like Medeival Games, which was fun.

Exactly, although I would say that 3 is different from all of them. However, having said that, although they are very different mechanically, the thing that I liked most about Civ4 when I first started playing it was that it reminded me of all the hours I spent playing Civ2. Don't know if that makes any sense, but it was just sorta a similar feeling, but you're right, a very different game.

But, I haven't played the Colonization expansion, I thought it was a stand alone game?

In addition, props to BSnake, it takes balls to call out a C64 game as one of your favourites. My favourite game for C64 was Jumpman. Do you know that there were something like 100 different levels for that game? Although, I also had a Dragon Riders of Pern game that I liked, text based RPG/stratagy.

I agree wholeheartedly with the statement Prime published. If I were in charge of a big clan like IMP, I'd feel the same way.

As I'm by myself, in a one-man-clan, I need to watch my step a big more... But then I suppose that I don't need to worry about Sanct anyway. They don't fight back anyway, they just talk a lot on FFAT about how little they care about a server they keep coming back to...

Back in UNITED we had one dude who loved to break the other clan's big ones. He'd finish the kill, if he could, but in a war chat he'd just bust up the big ones for us, and then hand it off.

That's why, as a clan, we kept track of all members who hit a kill target as part of the kill. At least all those who hit it significantly.

Too bad that doesn't work here though. Maybe we should have Assists?

I did play the original Civilisation, many years ago, but I think that was just about the time when 2 was out, and it was superior. I don't remember 1 at all actually.

But I stand corrected about the scenarios in Civ4. I had forotten about that. I remember being shocked when I first tried to play it. Really, I didn't play scenarios too much in any of those games, I just played the single player campaign over and over on random settings, and tried to explore different ways of winning.

Also, I forgot about fighting games: you won't believe this one... Although I have a great nostalgia for Street Fighter II (I'll never forget how pissed my buddy Steve was that he couldn't beat me with any character) and also for Virtua Fighter ummm... 2 I think, the one for Sega Saturn, my favourite fighting game of all time is actually Eternal Champions. I can't even explain why, I just loved that game.

I'm also suprized that not even one Sierra game has been mentioned here. :P

I have to agree, I've recently been introduced to Total War, and I'm really enjoying it now, but Civ is the best. Although you have to stipulate, Civ2 and Civ4, were the best. I lost a lot of hours on those two games, but Civ3 was terrible. Also, just to be an fluff, Civ is not technically RTS, because it's turn based. :)

FPS: For me is easy, because, while I've played many that I liked, it's not generally my favourite genre. Therefore, GoldenEye for N64. Best multiplayer in an FPS EVER. *Laughs* Prox. Mines... in the Caverns.

RPG: This is really my favourite genre, despite that a majority of the games that are mass produced in Japan are utter drivel. That being said Final Fantasy IIX was one of the best games of any genre, ever. I have rarely played a game that developed such an emotional attachment with the characters. When Aerith died... Yeah. Rumors were that they were going to remake the game for the release of PS3. If they had, I was ready to buy a PS3, for that reason alone.

Something else to consider... Assume that Paulie is, in fact, right. So Slash/Shi/NightShade and Purg. ARE the same person and running multis...

She/they are in YOUR clan with you. So if the admins or mods haven't caught it, or aren't concerned... That makes it an advantage for your clan and for YOU by extention.

Seems to me that you're not going to leave a clan because you find out that it's getting away with an advantage. Sounds like somebody doesn't like somebody else and childishly decided to spread rumours about them.

Which means that the onus is now on YOU to substantiate your accusations, which, logically, you would have done in the first place if you could have done.

You're right Despie.

I agree that people should not be hostile toward the game admins because their ideas aren't accepted. That's what I see from admins who have posted in this thread, they don't believe that the ideas are being brought to them in a constructive way, suggestions are often phrased in the form of an accusation, and that's just not how to get things done.

Having said that, however, admins should also grow a thick skin from verbal abuse, since it's part of the job, in any game ever. Slag's comment 'your idea was rejected because it sucked' WAS over the top, uncalled for and unprofessional. You can expect nonesense from players, who hav no responsibility except to play the game, but an admin should be above petty retorts.

When it comes to admins listening to and taking suggestions from players, I have another point of view though. Anybody play SWG? That game was designed to be and could have been the best MMORPG ever... It was pushed to release before it was finished, which caused many subsequent problems, but leaving that aside, it was ruined by Devs who listened to players, who complained inseasently. People were constantly whining that the player classes were unbalanced, so the Devs would boost this class or nerf that class in an attempt to please the players. Each time they tried to balance things, they made one side stronger or another weaker, and inevitably made the class that people said was too strong, now useless. It happened several times, and litterally ruined the game.

So, if the admins of this game are more hesitant to make changes to please some o the player membership, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

I think I need to start self-farming.

So far I've been all-X, because last set was my first set back, and in the old days I never self-farmed, I lged. Problem is that this server really isn't large enough to lg properly. When people played 100's of countries, we all had a personal farm tag, because there were 100's of clans as well. So you'd find one who couldn't or wouldn't retal you and get your land. Now, that just isn't possible because every country is either in a big clan, or is a one-man-clan, and you just don't have enough targets to lg feed 16 with land.

I've said before self-farming is clearly an advantage... So why isn't everyone doing it?

If you have some real moral objections to it, then I understand and respect that. (not that I understand WHY you have moral objections to it, I understand only THAT you do)

I would reconsider playing at all in a real unlimited server like old FFA. I was always frustrated by the fact that some clans had a similar number of people as mine, but they all had bots running hundreds of countries, and therefore made my clan less relevant. Even if it wasn't bots, I could run 100-200 maybe by hand max. and that simply wasn't enough to compete.

There are some valid pros, like landgrabbing, and more diversity on the sever. But overall, I Love 16 for everybody, because it's more than a few like 1A, but it's even and it's fair for everyone.

To be honest, the people I miss he most in this game were the guys who were with me in UNITED just after I first joined. AndrewD, gorman, Iceman and his brother Peanut, Posse, Psykosis, the VOZ. So that's the clan that I'd most like to see come back.

Other clans:

USIMP, prolly not most of their membership, I only knew the leaders, but they were honourable people. I had a lot of respect for the clan because of that.

MIA, always did the right thing. They'd stand up for a friend no matter what the odds.

SOTA, yep, I said it. I always had a soft spot for Shi and her struggle to build that clan.

UCF, well, if UNITED isn't around, our estranged cousin would be the next best thing. They were a good lot, though... Mostly. ;)
