The theory is sound enough, but it will never happen. Those with the billions will just learn how to hide their money better or maximize their taxable write offs to give them the benefit of taxable monies.

hence the need for radical change.

America isn't the only country that has this issue, BUT some countries that bit the bullet earlier and have raised minimums and up'd millionaire taxes have benefited greatly.. Businesses didn't just up and close, and they still have millionaires and billionaires.. but they are willing to pay their fair share of taxes.

I think that greed has a lot to do with the current issues in the world and fixing that is the key to actually opening up barriers, while also allowing people to actually "have a go" when there is a job that actually pays them enough to pay for food and rent.

Liberal likes some socialist policies - right says Venezuela
Liberal has guns but calls for back ground checks - right says they wanna take your guns away.

Trump lost. The time to make wild accusations about the policy liberals want is over and the time to listen to them tell you has begun . You act like theres a one size fits all box for someone nationalizing industry which won't happen.

But the truth is, you don't have to speculate wildly anymore. They hold most of government so instead of fearmongering using the most radical examples, we can have a discussion about actual policy the government puts forth. Or at least I'd hope so.

Thatcher, while keynesianism strong which Biden is not like, wanted to nationalize industry which Biden wouldnt do, and while attempting to balance a mixed economy, never endorsed a wealth tax which we are discussing. It's a horrible example and just like not even in the same ballpark to what I'm saying or what we are talking about. She didnt have billionaires in her economy, so a billionaire tax is not something she could have even addressed.

It's just a Breitbart trope that you've half researched but keep repeating, but it actually has no place and doesnt even make sense in this convo. Were talking about a wealth tax not a welfare state. WAY different things.

Further, weve seen Reagan's policy work in it's time, but create a giant wealth gap after 50 years. Do I think Trump is Ronald Reagan? No. Do I think different policy worked in different ways in a smaller more nationalist 1960s and 70s economy? Yes. Do I think it's dumb to bring up Thatcher and Reagan when our economy is tied to global markets rather than national policy and wage shifts would have less effect because our imports/exports represent a larger part of the economy? You betcha.

It's just a bad example. Try having the conversation on merits instead of making a 50 year old reference to completely different policy, or imma start comparing trump to the post-war consensus, the 1973 oil crisis and the three-day week and you can see how stupid it sounds when the shoe is on the other foot.

In case anyone forgot what a baseless attack on my personal life is, it's chevs! Community was on a solid 2 days without one. A NEW RECORD!

On another thatcher note I thought of in the shower getting ready to go work my job in business management, didn't the world reserve currency change off Britain to the US before she even got in power? Like trash in the streets, a three day work week, roving blackouts. Of the dozens of countries that reconstructed using Keynes economics, you pick the one that only had power a few days a week haha.

I can say that if the world reserve currency was changed today from US money to a more stable currency like China, I believe our economy would be in free fall too. And no amount of legislation could keep the dollars value because it isnt backed by gold or anything. We'd probably have the shortages, blackouts and limited work weeks to survive too.

I know you don't and you didn't ask. So since you are ignorant let's go ahead and keep my personal life out of your fluffing mouth.

Regarding the ACA with the adults in the room, it seems today like this court, especially Kavanaugh and Roberts, seem apprehensive about striking it down. Without the individual mandate sort of requiring people to comply, the court seems to be taking a "not our job" approach while state lawyers quibble with Breyer over semantics and the meaning of the word "shall."

It seems, for the moment, that even with Barrett the court is still 5-4 on the ACA remaining in tact although were the individual mandate still in tact, it could be 6-3 the other way.

I think sort of more interesting than me really having an opinion on it, but it seems congressional Republicans actually shot themselves in the foot getting rid of the individual mandate before packing the court and testing the bill on merits.

It wouldnt have been a piece of trash human, it would have been a piece of human trash or a trash human.

Why tho, did someone wanna debate the merits of what is personal when I'm literally talking on a thread on a page with less than 10 messages where someone attempted to make personal attacks about my job history? Everyone has a line, mine just happened to be crossed when chevs made an extremely detailed post calling me a pedophile. What's your line? He seems to come at me with limitless homophobia and intolerance and bigotry, so it actually makes me a bit tougher on you guys about personal attacks. It's actually my poor response to his existing in an area that is way too far. When you guys toe the line, I'm already pissed because I am under constant personal attacks. And so I lump all of it under one blanket when I probably should not.

I could even throw in a lite apology to hawk here. Caught me at a time where I was like 30 minutes and 12 personal attacks into a day so I responded assuming an actually harmless joke was in the same vein. Isolating it against how people normally talk about me here tho, it wasn't a personal attack like I called it. But that's only if you isolate it from homophobic and disingenuous comments about my life I'd already received that were closely related so I assumed it was in tow. My bad bro.

In any case, I liked the politics discussion better. Dont be silly. We had a solid three pages of conversation I actually enjoyed about politics with no personal fluff on it. We were debating bills on the merits and such. And talking about Kaynes and Thatcher. Let's not go down this road guys. Or at least pick another thread.

Anyone care to discuss the supreme court's reaction to the ACA debate today or are we so reduced to idiocracy that we cant even talk about what's actually happening anymore, and just wanna sling mud? You can do it I promise. You know the supreme court discussed the ACA today because I mentioned it. Let's talk about it without calling me a dirty so and so.

Ahhh fluff. I just got my credit score over 720 and have 40k on hand for the first time in my life and you all are gonna tell me not to open a small business cuz it's terrible now? Aack! lol

Half the bar/restaurant world is closed for good and I've found fully outfitted restaurants with legitimately everything I need in BYOBs I know I could sustain for the hilariously low rate of 4k a month, still looking to pounce on something with a liquor license I wont have to sit on for a year to make money, or make a down payment to purchase a building and leverage my mortgage against a business loan for my own proper spot tho.

Dont tell me now it's horrible! Lol...

It is man. Like gonzo cheap. Buildings are sitting on the market for $23/sqft/mo. Used to be you had to know people to see anything under $40 in the biz. Especially fully outfitted kitchens with tables and chairs and a bar ready to go. Row businesses with upstairs apartments used to be around a million dollars downtown. 600k if you bought the restaurant separate from the upstairs apartment. Now, like maybe half that and theres like 100 units for sale. Its crazy.

I'm just here to say this is completely accurate. I work in healthcare administration and I have a good understanding of the ACA and employer sponsored benefits. Our subscribers/employees had reduced benefits at a much higher cost. Many had to opt out and have no benefits and just pay cash for sick visits and prescriptions and just hope you dont need hospitalization or emergenct care from a serious accident or illness. This part specifically actually had little to do with the individual mandate. - Obviously that hit our population a little harder but these benefit costs were going to rise regardless of the mandate being in place. While taxes did increase slightly to cover all of these Marketplace plans, they pale to the increase in cost to actually provide these benefits, which results in lower take-home pay regardless of how you deduct it from the check. And sadly, these costs have nothing to do with your overall income of tax bracket. And in my opinion, even with what I just stated, that is not the reason why the ACA was/is an overall failure... but thats a different topic.

Agreed. And you're also right that's not even the beginning of why it is a failure. Unless it was a price-fixed industry. When the ACA first came out my first year was a wee bit cheaper for me because I was expensive to insure due to preexisting conditions, which was something they got right at the time for me. I want to say by year two but definitely by year three I had far worse insurance for far more money.

I'm slightly ignorant on this tho. What was the major driver in forcing the costs of these plans up so high? And with the ACA holding up in court, are there ways to amend it to decrease costs? Perhaps by medicare negotiating pharmaceutical prices? What do you see as a proper endgame? We seem a long way off from single payer or something.

Are they? I'm not. The only thing better than beating Donald Trump is beating him twice. They can count em every week for the next 4 years and I would watch him lose again and again lol.

I think Georgia is in an automatic recount and Wisconsin can be petitioned to do so if they are within one percent, which they are and it is his right. Jill Stein even made them do it in 2016 because anyone running can petition them to do that and they are compelled to do so if within 1% (as I remember, hand count resulted in like +30 or 40 Trump votes). You just aren't actually allowed to file that until like 7 days after the election there. But yeah. They will definitely recount there as well.

Who is calling for the recounts to stop? Are you calling for like a nationwide recount? That seems extreme. Some of these places aren't even exactly all that close.

Yeah, but does a re-count actually change the outcome?

think about the states within 1-2%, the ones with more than 5% difference are not even worth counting.. because there is no way there would be 00k's of votes that have been misrepresented..

It's a bit difficult to look at like 20 different lawsuits and predict which two actually have a legal basis. Thus far a bunch have been struck. Theres a big lawsuit in PA right now that affects only two counties both of which trump won, but the allegations like many others are hearsay, and that's why something like 10 have already been shut down.

There have been 28 statewide recounts since 2000 in the general and over that period of time the amount of votes that a recount changes an election has decreased seemingly each time it happens. The mean swing is about 282 votes, the median like 219. The most it has ever changed an election is Florida 2000 which changed the result by about 1200 votes total. Wisconsin's 2016 recount resulted in a 131 vote change in favor of trump.

10,000 votes is kind of a fluffload to be off, and no state is within that margin. Even if 10,000 biden votes get removed from every state it completely doesnt change the result. So it's more than a lot likely this wont change anything.

I think a lot of that comes back to states deciding their own rules. I just realized I led you astray giving you good information about Wisconsin because every state is different. MN voter data, for example, is actually on their SOS website:
https://www.sos.state.mn.us/...oter-registration-counts/

Nevada doesnt post official voter data until after submitting official results because they allow same day registrations, but their updated daily total is kept here:
https://www.nvsos.gov/...home/showdocument?id=9054

PA DOS country registrations are here:
https://www.dos.pa.gov/...ngElectionStatistics.aspx

NC keeps it on their SBOE website:
https://vt.ncsbe.gov/...ults/?date=11%2F03%2F2020

Wisconsin has theirs on their election commissions website here:
elections.wi.gov/node/7220

Michigan VIC has MI data compiled by SOS here:
https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/VoterCount/Index

Arizona is the SOS website as well:
https://azsos.gov/...-historical-election-data

Georgia SOS as well, mind you their spreadsheet looks like hell and doesnt make sense to me, the last column in the race graph is total voters haha:
https://sos.ga.gov/...r_registration_statistics

Does that cover everything close? I did my best. My god do secretaries of state have some terrible looking bad websites tho lord. Feels like our digital infrastructure is from the age of Oregon Trail.

Lol yeah. I actually feel like I nailed it. Journalists are officially one step behind our raw voter data lol. That was some work. Maybe the associated press will hire me if I make them a graph lol

It's because you misunderstand them. You need to figure out if you trust the source rather than the reporting. Because I'm sure you trust CNN, Fox, Breitbart, MSNBC etc to be biased in different ways. Your news channels, likely conservative radio shows that you listen to while driving, they are just as biased, or more. They all just want to keep their base listening so they can stay on air/make more money. That is their motivation.

This may have been the case before as well but it has definatly been supercharged by the bush administrations deregulation of TV news media. Now most of you live in news bubbles, where you get your take on whats going on from different sets of strongly biased media which all say the same thing.

Distrusting media or the other institutions is just not enough or productive in itself. Getting info from 'regular every day people' is also a very bad idea. What Derrick did was summarize and look up that info for you(which is exactly what the mainstream media should do, and to a great extent do), its not HIS information, its the information made public by those institutions you have to trust. If it was just Derrick saying "yo I think A because B" it may very well be BS.

Tl;dr - Dont trust/distrust the spin that the journalist puts, it's just there. Instead decide if you should trust/distrust the source.

Looks like the same people running the covid counts are running the election counts. Now the map has reverted to under 270.

All the leftist bullfluff MUST end, violently if necessary. America needs to man up and put down insurrectionists, marxist terror operations greatly resembling brown shirts in the old Weimar Republic prior to the rise of Naziism, in effect a Teutonic socialism.
