LaF made the move in very early 2007, we were hit our first half set on EC by ZT and Rage, and our involvement helped win the first real "slit" war.

The MAJOR war was the 2nd set LaF was in EC, which was sometime around Feb-Mar-April 2007. The set after that, both NA and LaF pacted out. LaF would be hit the following reset by Rival, and after that I don't remember what NA did at all because I was busy :p

So I have a new server, and I need to start implementing a naming system that's better than my current one ("DAVE_GAMING", "DAVE_LAPTOP", "DAVE_MAC")

At work, we use star names for all of servers... so you would have like Polaris, Antares, etc and you don't run out for a while (there are lots of servers there) but for printers, they use Flintstones names... like Fred, Barney, Wilma, Dino, The Grand Poobah, and I generally like that style better!

So I was thinking about what types of names I could give my servers!
I had a few ideas that i'd like to bounce off folks and I'm open to new ideas. The names have to somewhat make sense and be different enough that I can tell servers apart. There should also be enough of them that I can upgrade more or less indefinitely.
My ideas were:
Dragon Ball Z -> There are SO many characters here, and if I have something like Goten and Trunks computers which I then take apart and make into one really good computer, I can call it Gotenks! My girlfriend's computer could be ChiChi.

Simpsons Characters -> there's just a lot of characters here, many with funny names. "Hey Dave, where are your publicly available files on the network?" "Look for Apu Nahassapenapetalan on the network!"

Like I said, I'm needing to start naming them better because I'm starting to have too many computers to keep track of them all effectively, and when I get my full home network setup at my new place (hopefully with LinuxMCE installed :) ) I will need to keep much better track of the computers, as each one will be tied to a TV/Media station of some kind.

Any suggestions/comments are welcome!

So I watch a lot of TV when I'm relaxing/playing video games/doing casual work, but I always HAAATE how there's nothing on in the summers!
There's no exciting sports (football or hockey) and most of the good shows are off during the summer, so there's limited new programming on.

So if any of you are like me... what have you been watching lately? I'm interested in getting some more ideas to add to what I've been watching :) Give a little blurb about show as well :p

I've been watching Louie, which is a hilarious show kind of in a similar style as Curb Your Enthusiasm. I just watched a few in a row.
Another show I'm watching is Breaking Bad -- that show is awesome. High school chemistry teacher turned meth cook. This really hits home with me because my girlfriend could do all this if she wanted to! :p

Other things that I've watched which are good and a little more obscure:
Community -> Sitcom about a bunch of students in community college.... all are misfits of varying ages and backgrounds. Similar style as something like Scrubs, although no cutaways or narration. Just a similar humour style.
The Pacific -> Band of Brothers in the pacific theatre. It's really good if you like violence or history. There is a lot of love story crap in a few episodes which is actually pretty well done, so there's something for girlfriends to watch too.
Jericho -> This is one of my favourite TV shows of all time, but it only got 1.5 seasons. The US is crippled by a series of nuclear attacks on the major cities and it shows how a small town deals with it. It's sort of like Lost, but in a contemporary US small town.

k... what browser version and os are you using? that seems odd, it's pretty basic CSS to put the content below the header, so it should be able to do it across browsers (except mobile ones)

moving turns from active to stored will be detrimental to new players who want to play all their turns when they want to.... and it will make people have to log in more often.

on that note, i'm not opposed to that, and also telling new players that alliance is the "elite server" where you need to put in the extra levels of effort.

The order of difficulty to play a server, IMO is... (easiest to hardest)

I personally preferred 2 -- made you use your turns smartly and the wars were WAY better.

All the wars on this server are super lopsided and that's not cool.

if you are country a and country b grabs you 10 times, you will have 10 hits of DR on you.
If you hit country b back 10 times, you will have 0 hits worth of DR on you if country C hits you, but if country b hits you again, you'll still have 10 hits of dr on you.

This only applies to ghost acres, I believe.

Talking about NA's netting titles from E2025 is like talking about Mark McGwire's homeruns. You don't know for sure that there was sketchy stuff going on back then, because the oversight was trash, but since it was caught later on you basically assume there was back then too :p

we let a VERY inactive person stay tagged, along with someone who's been in and out of the hospital all set, being AB'ed by rage daily.

I wanted to see the person in the hospital stay tagged, because he would be active if he could be and I want him to finish the set in our tag, as he's in all of our thoughts.... but we should have removed the other guy IMO. That would have left us with an easy ANW victory :p

Or if downsay -- who had been inactive for 3 weeks -- hadn't detagged and then retagged in the last 5 min

started playing sometime between 14-16 (forget when exactly... probably closer to 16), 26 now

we can redebate that, or we can just discuss how we tried to contact you guys to sort the issue out and no one returned our messages.... which caused us to assume you were planning to FS us (as the issues were mounting) and we took proactive measures to protect our members

5 minutes of FR work would have stopped the hits and avoided the war....

I don't know why Rage is hating so much.... they're the ones who caused the war to happen and then wanted to make peace, and then change their mind about that as soon as we agreed

the reason the war started and continued was because of rage -- we have no hard feelings towards rage, they just seem to have hard feelings for us

Rage made the active decision to allow their members to be farmed all set, when the war could have been over shortly after it started.

Overall, Rage has no reason to be mad at LaF, but they need to take a hard look inward at the culture which caused Rage to be demolished and farmed for a month

If I didn't think qz and slag were completely trustworthy, we wouldn't have worked together in the first place. That goes both ways with me and them as well.

There is no point in arguing about this in public, we're already handling it privately on a case-by-case basis.

I'm just going to respond to one quick point:
I think there is definitely a difference between a player based problem causing you to lose stock/money and a game based one doing it.
Boxcar going down/an emergency/whatever is not the same as the game going down. Based on the spam I got while the server was down, a lot of people were sitting there TRYING to play the game but couldn't. That's an entirely different scenario than if they're out in the hospital or something.

I don't like the idea of setting a policy which says that when we negatively impact the playing experience of people we don't make it right. That extends across all servers, not just alliance.

yes, qz did a great job at getting things up and running quickly. The downtime lasted for longer than we would have liked, but most of the time was when qz was asleep or at work, as has been noted.

part of the problem with this being a hobby and not our main job ;)

I got that e-mail today, with the scam trying to get my password so they could hack my account

I don't even play WoW and haven't had my account active in almost a year, so I thought someone had already hacked my account! So I went and logged in (to the real wow site, not the links from the e-mail) and it all looks fine, so I read the email further...

I checked it out and the stuff looks pretty legit, so be careful if you get this! Also, i wonder if blizzard is giving out my email address to scammers or if this is somehow Hanlong's fault.

i think we need to all keep in mind that we're looking to appeal to a new generation with the public design, I've heard overwhelmingly positive responses, but there's always room for improvement :)

That being said, lots of other people just like simple designs, and that was a staple of earth! :p
