I was saying people should convert to farmer, but it wasn't a sinister plot, because then I did it myself... We genuinely needed more food but then got way more food it seems like.

When I converted to Farmer my idea was to put together the stock for the switch and convert it into food placed on the market. That way I wouldn't lose any of it when I switched governments. Well, I bought for $50 and the food price is $37 now and I still haven't sold it, so I guess it didn't really work out like I imagined it.

Congrats to the BeePo man! Fascist is not an easy government to play. Incredible score for this day and age. I guess it wouldn't have been fair for me to win my first time back in several years, but you can't say I didn't try. :) I'm not sure I even remember my startups but I guess it's like riding a bike...

I suggest 8 DR as the number that triggers the warning so that players can't use the feature to scout for actual low DR targets (on Express with bots for example).

Just to clarify, I mean we should communicate to players the very concept of DR, not hand the country's DR info to them...

However, my simplest idea for how to identify the concept to less knowledgeable players would indeed reveal a little bit, but I think it's a rather elegant way to inform players without adding overwhelming information and clutter all over the page. Simply make it so when you queue up a SS/PS on a country in DR of 8 or higher (ie, returns of 35% or below), on the confirm attack page it says "Warning: Attacks on this country are currently suffering Diminished Returns." Maybe the words "Diminishing Returns" are a clickable link, and if the player clicks that, it tells them the gains multipliers and the attack half-life on the server, and how outgoing attacks remove DR.

It's a good way to incorporate a "learning by playing" mindset as opposed to the current "learning by scouring the forums or leaning on more experienced players for advice."

I'm sure it's possible, but they want the precise DR number to be a little muddy, and they want people to have to try to figure out how much DR someone is in themselves. But I do think they should include a warning, either somewhere people will see it, describing what DR is, or maybe when you try to attack someone in 7+ DR, the warning comes up. Either would be useful. Then if the person wants more info they would be able to click and see the formula for DR. Right now you can't find that anywhere unless you comb through old announcements.

It's sad to think there's no real way to get any new blood in this game, but I can't really think of much. An app would help a little, but not too much since I don't think this is exactly the type of game many people are looking for these days.

The hit happened at 8:30am eastern. Talk about waking up to fluff in your cereal. Apparently he did it just because he was bored and wanted to see if he could make a grab as big as KoH did. Second topfeed on the same country by him this reset now. Not to lay it on too thick, but I don’t like when stuff like that happens for no reason, especially this late in the reset when netters are already calculating out their finishes. There’s 55 days of TLC put into that country you’re hitting out of boredom. :(

Let's push information about DR onto this page.

The game is not nearly transparent enough as it comes to some of its inner workings. How many newbies do you think have queued up an attack on a fat country, hit that attack button, only to get 50 acres and complete befuddlement?

Players should also be informed of the 10% random factor here, and be warned about defensive allies.

From what I can tell, the functionality here is going to be an improvement on what we've been using. The design, of course, is also more modern. This is a worthy undertaking and I'm inspired by the work going into updating this old classic game. I know it's a labor of love and as a fellow lover of this game, I appreciate it!

That being said, I have a few critiques directed toward the visuals. I like the side menu panel, that looks great and no suggestions there. But on other pages, most especially the MAIN page being discussed here, I think the look just needs to be dressed up slightly. Things look too chunky, there's big headers with oversized plain arial text and blue backgrounds with no gradient. That can be improved. I would also recommend replacing the blue with that classic Earth Empires maroon color instead.

Just as important, I think we are also taking a small step back in data absorption, if that makes any sense. The numbers and data don't pop to me like they do on the old style and it takes a little bit longer to process what I am looking at. Maybe the black background helps on the old version, but I think you could also try bolding the text (but not the numbers), so that the text and the numbers don't run together. ie, <b>Land</b> 50,000. That's the way it's done in the older version and I think that might also be part of what makes it easier to absorb.

Finally, this page no longer tells you how long it will be until your next bonus is available, which was helpful.
