That's exactly the point. Keep trading the way it is, give bottomfeeders targets -- but not so many that it overpowers the landscape. Let there be variety, yes please. The goal, I would think, would be to allow multiple playing styles to compete on as even a playing field as is possible to promote competition.

Give the CI a steep military upkeep bonus too, while we're at it.

Untagged countries realistically serve no purpose on this server anymore.

Of the untaggeds over 1m NW at this point, you've probably got a couple of all ex- all defense guys, a couple of true newbs, and a 5-10 vets with a vendetta or just looking to suicide. That's about it. The exploring 100% turret guys serve no purpose, I'm not sure why they're on this server. The newbs will be farmed into bolivia until they quit or join a tag. The vets will do what they intend to.

The only viable method of netgaining has become landtrading (you know I hate to say I told you so, right?). This is because the target pool for bottomfeeders has become non existent.

When I last played regularly, 12-18 months ago, the goal of the admin seemed to be to nerf landtrading after the first reset where landtraders regularly flourished. Landtrading has been nerfed, yes, but in its most efficient form it's still quite viable and there is no realistic alternative for netters, given the death of bottomfeeding.

This server should require active players to tag up. Of the untagged pool now, the newbs will find a home, the all ex-d guys can all ex in peace, and the vet-suiciders will do as they may. This server -- and likely only this server -- given the landscape, is the perfect testing ground for a pool of untagged bots, especially if those bots have retal capability for over-aggressors.

If it works, it'll be quite productive and re-introduce bottomfeeding as a viable alternative to trading, breathing new life into a stagnant landscape.

This game needs to be shaken up, this server is the perfect arena to require real players to join an alliance, while providing bot targets for everyone to improve the stale netting landscape.

Either that, or we all need to fine tune or landtrading skills, because that's the only option. I'd rather have multiple options.

Ahhhh man you guys are on fanduel too? I've been hooked since I won a big $10 tourney early in college football, started with $10 and i've got like $800 and I'm still rolling.

If you're not using rotogrinders.com you should, best site specific stats database out there.

Anyone been around long enough to notice the obvious similarities between fanduel and the fantasy sports games once offered by the great mehul patel in the eesite/swirve days? Was exactly the same format, except in the Echelon/Swirve games you had to keep a player rostered for like, 72 hours in baseball/basketball instead of daily. Oh, and Mehul wasn't smart enough to charge for it. Fanduel's freaking printing money, they got their logo on the court at the Amway Arena in Orlando, I'm suprised a major sports team is taking the cash from what some could see as "gambling"....but yeah, this fluff will be *everywhere* a year or two from now if it isn't already.

Neglects key facts that shape context, not that I'd expect you to post something that wasn't run through a propaganda filter though, given this is a war dec thread.

To claim we started landtrading because of PDM's success is laughable.

Right.

It'd be less laughable to say you started landtrading because of EVO's success, which is what forced you to FA Osso out of #1 last set.

It'd be more accurate to say you started landtrading because you realized your outdated, antiquated strategies couldn't compete with these shenanigans you saw Paradigm, EVO, and others pulling.

And it was convenient you had your BFF to trade with all the way up to the top 10.

Completely ignoring the blatant fact you had guys trading amongst your own tag, which is where you guys jumped the shark.

Goku wasn't guilty of this, but LaF was as a whole. Pretty petty when you consider you could just trade with RD to you get your fill, but predictable.

Rationalize your actions in whatever warped way makes you feel better about them. Claim the moral high road due to the cleanliness of one of your members, and damn the other side because of the moral "imperfection" you've heard about from one member of the other side.

It all makes sense when you think about it :)

Forgotten,

You know what ad-lib means, don't you? You seem confused.

Armadillo,

You and SG should check your numbers on PCI/turn bonuses. Or don't.

As you conveniently seemed to gloss over, I was looking at 335-340 mil with no tech sales, not the 250 million number one of your guys pulled out of one of his orifices. As a side note, I believe you came to that 250 million number when you forgot to include 230-240 turns onhand in my "stockpile" -- which is 18 billion dollars = 81 million NW conveniently enough, brining your "estimate" to about 330m vs mine of 335-340m.

I wouldn't have won unaided, I'd have been sabotaged if I were in a position to do so just as I was.

Unaided, Goku, darkness, ingle(?), and I would have all been 350-385 mil NW. I'd have likely finished 3rd-7th....as the dictator rainbow who was suicided for 30k acres with a couple weeks to go in the reset.

IN CONCLUSION, I MUST SUCK AT THIS GAME :)

I'm done here. You trolls have fun.

2013-04-02 17:33:02 JUST WARI BEING WARI $99,179,409 150,141 acres IG Paradigm

So really 262 + 75 = 337

Still not top 10.

This is somewhat true.

What you're not including is 30-35 mil points tech stockpile, which was the reason for the 95 mil NW -- and part of the reason we decided to ad-lib a tech buyout.

Without the planned buyout, I could/would have dumped 5-10 mil NW extra in tech pre-switch, saved 2-4 mil NW loss switching. Whatever, somewhat negligible.

I still would have sold (roughly) 15-18 mil points of tech at, lets say, an average of $850 -- over the final week.

Well, there's 12 billion dollars I didn't have before. Adds 20 million to 335-340. At least.

Plus PCI booms. There's an extra 9m NW over 7 days.

Yeah, right around 250 mil. Sounds about right.

Uh, no. I have no issue with you aiding players to #1 in consecutive resets when you were otherwise beaten.

FA is fine. When you launch hundreds of ops on somebody in the last 45 seconds of a reset, that's a puss move.

If you don't see the difference between the two, you're either myopic or delusional.

But definitely one of the two.

Enjoy your victory, but please...step your game up :)

Wouldn't a good techer be in fine position if not for the lack of a food spike this reset?

The food market never took off because nineteen out of twenty landtraders went farmer. If they'd all been cashers and food had hit $80, suddenly this reset becomes one where a good techer can compete with anyone.

ESPECIALLY with the effect traders had on keeping the tech market so high, so late.

I don't disagree with any of that.

Maybe eliminate CS losses completely for the defender under a certain acreage lost (500?), or only increase the % lost on grabs above a certain acreage (5,000?)?

While an admirable solution, this doesn't work well because it
A) Gives suiciders too much suicide strength (grabbing land off low defense countries isn't enough, you want to cripple their CS too?)
B) Cripples untagged countries that are being farmed even further.

A) If I'm a suicider, I already have too much suicide strength. Given the batfluff crazy AB CS losses, you think I'm going to bother buying jets to grab-suicide when I can just AB a guy two dozen times to take out as many CS as I could in 50 grabs? If I were to even buy jets, just to entertain the argument, I'd take out much more CS and use less resources BRing the victim. The only case where a suicider is making landgrabs is to landgrab stockpile, and if you have enough stockpile to be landgrabbed by a suicider without enough defense to protect yourself from it, you deserve it.

(not to mention how easy it is, in comparison, to just stock warfare for the first 3 weeks, missile a trader who has no CHANCE to get SDI before 50k acres, and take out his CS that way)

B) No, a nominal increase in CS loss would not have a real effect on farmed, untagged countries. An elimination of landtrading would cripple untagged countries that are not currently being farmed quite as hard has they used to be. I've seen people here today lamenting the ineffectiveness of the C:C ghost acre changes because it penalizes bottomfeeders more than traders. You're fluffing about only getting ghosts on your first TEN freaking grabs on a country every reset? I call bullfluff.

Xin, you're smarter than this... This argument doesn't hold water.

Ok, maybe I lowballed you. 330 mil unaided? Maybe 350 with savvy reselling.

I guess the line between "fluffty" and whatever you guys consider yourself lies somewhere between 310-325 mil NW? I figured you guys could easily crack 350 mil unaided once a few of your guys opened that whole "in-tag trading" can of worms.

It's true though -- to compete you must adapt. I'll continue to throw fluff at a wall and call it "innovation" when it works -- you guys just keep adapting... to my style of gameplay :)

I know I suck at this game, everybody knows that.

I'm just a big newb running a dumb rainbow.

Of course, I could have cleared 320 mil NW destocking as a dict, without any thought of a buyout.

But I didn't think that'd be enough.

Why? Because I saw the way Osso was screwed over last reset.

I saw that with the perspective of a country who was in line for 285 mil NW before RANDOM suiciders struck me in the name of DEFEATING THE EVIL LANDTRADING SCOURGE, knowing that I'd be the one FA'd down when the time came.

(as I had been in the set before that)

The game is changing, FINALLY. It's refreshing. Think outside the box.

I traded land with what I consider the "best landtrader" on the server based on tech/build just before the stocking phase, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't topping 325 mil NW without aid. If you'd like to refute that with substantive fact, be my guest.

Or don't, I don't care.

I may suck, but I won't get fooled again :)

All I know is this game is FUN again because you're not married to your stupid little cookie cutter strat that was written in 1998. For shaking up and bettering a truly stagnant, stale game, I give much credit and thanks to pang.

See, misinformed bullfluff like this.

I was over-retaled by an idiot in Rival, retaled his RoR, so he grabbed me for 30k acres -- to 60k -- down from (90k - stockpiling acreage) and immediately self deleted.

Rival was quite willing to work with me and I have no complaints about the outcome of the situation, but I was given 150% L:L for that -- no reps. And given a list of 3 targets, two of which were too small to hit due to humanitarians, the last of which was a landthin indy.

So the bottom line is it took me 12 days to take back my 40k acres, and I gained 13k+ghosts in the exchange. I do believe I could have traded for more than that over the course of 12 days, thanks though.

I mean, really. If you're not going to take my finish seriously, at least do it for the right reasons :)

in-tag landtrading
last second FA
FA chains
FA in general
landtrading
oil buyouts
tech buyouts
research allies for non techers
offensive allies for assholes who PS every day
spy allies for countries with weak SPAL

and a dozen other forms of "aid" you might receive from your alliance, but the bottom line is every one of these is commonplace, at least in recent sets (this current one in particular).

Not to mention grabbing pacts-DNHs your alliance is smart enough to negotiate/impose.

All of these things and more are fair game as the game is played today, and that's how it should be on this server as the rules of the do not prohibit them.

If you're the one benefiting, you call it "great teamwork". If you're not, it's "cheap".

Both might be true -- who cares as long as the rules are the same for everyone.

Yes.

Not as cheap as FAing somebody into the top 10 or to rank 1 in the final seconds of a reset, but definitely as cheap as an oil buyout.

These are the things that happen every reset, and then someone invariably complains here. As long as we're all playing by the same set of rules, we can compete on something of an even playing field.

Which is actually refreshing, if a warped sort of way. Which is about the best we can hope for, out of this game, at this point.

So, congratulations? :)

Detagging members for ANW is definitely less cheap than FAing members into the top 10, or FAing members to #1. But as long as we're all playing by the same set of rules -- and we're all aware of these rules, the cream will rise to the top.
