I can get $35 on my PM :p -- add the taxes and unless food is selling above 37 on the public market, then private just makes much more sense... If bots want to sell at 30 I will be happy to buy bushels from them :)

The easiest way I can think of to slow a kill run down is to throw in a 30 second cool down between every 100 hits... it can still be fast... but it would buy the country being hit about a minute and half or so to get online and wall.

those 30 seconds would seem like forever to those waiting to hit...

start to end on a kill run would be approximately 2-3 minutes.

Some of you might recall back to when I strategized hitting a player multiple times, and left my troops at 0 on purpose. Knowing a player would eventually try to GS me. He did and then I went about LGing. The end result was a large discussion about DR and Warster ultimately decided it wasn't a deletable offense. I posted prior to the set of my strategy. It's still on the forums as well.

If you are using this to get land in 1/10 of the normal turns needed, then the # of countries you can hit in the 95% range problem is not as bad. However if you are looking to get to 50-60k acres using this then I wish you the best of luck with no double taps in a reset ;)

This being said I still believe you would need to time it extremely well to get any benefit out of it.

As far as game mechanics are concerned, if this is truly unacceptable, i.e. seeing it from a strategy used to negate other players an ability of exacting a proper response to actions taken against them. A simple fix is to simply drop the GDI rule if a player attacks more than x amount of countries in this manner. Retals taken in a 24 hour period would not count against this, but any hit against a country within 95% range while in heavy DRs would.

Your plan would still work, if the hits being made were retals against those who would take advantage of your no defense country. If they were willing to take the risk then the consequences of their own actions is theirs to take. However, going out and hitting an All-x country for 2K acres and using the DRs and GDI as a method of escaping a well deserved response, is not going to sit well with most players. Yes it is a grey line, and a technicality which is allowing you to rob the bank persay, however you need to consider how long is the bank going to allow you to rob them in this manner?

I retal at random, if I'm in the mood for it, and do not worry all that much about a top 10 or top 25 position, if it happens it's cool, if it does not then it does not. I've lost too many countries in past, with hours of babysitting, and care put into a country to really care anymore. Play for the fun of it, and let the country land where ever it is going to land at.

so when you run out of countries to hit in the 95% range

... would you take the risk to hit a country a second time, or would you then just go all-x?

what happens when the DRs wear off?

all jetter is as old as E2025, it was probably the cause of the first war waged, which led to alliances being formed :)

--- Over time alliances won and enforced the no topfeed rules, I will admit they are fun, but the consequences tend to be heavy...

@buttman your number pretty much line up with what I have, just coming at it from a different angle

360+540 = 900 turns = a potential 24K acres with an avg 200(100) land grab, of course this is optimal with the avg probably closer to your 15-18k.

-- based on the above on a 120 country server there is enough land on the server for about 24 countries following this strategy.

I usually play farmer so would be a bit biased toward something like this...understood a rep casher gets optimal at just about 13-15k acres. <-- unless formulas have changed in the last 3 years or so.

the rest of the post is more about protecting newer player and all-x countries, making land acquisition a bit more competitive, and using a ghost acres only when a certain DR threshold is reached. yet at the same time a netter would not care if they were hit 30x in a reset, other than some military losses, which could also be minimized.

the 60-70 mil net would probably go to a tyranny farmer, on an active land exchange server. their advantage being larger returns and much more land being acquired at a lower risk threshold. I'm probably overestimating, but something in me is saying it is possible. then again you are right I have only been back a month or so :p

what stops a player from using a 5-10 jet BR against you so instead of using 60 turns of getting land back they use 120-140 turns to kill you. especially if they are a farmer or casher <-- would this not be much more satisfying against an all-jetter in heavy DRs???

what would you do Celphi to an all jetter country that takes 1200 acres from you and is in heavy DRs, which makes getting your land back a waste of turns? ---
a. walk away,
b. get your land back,
c. kill the country

depending on the reset any of the 3 above could occur, but you need to look at it from a perspective of if this happened to me what would I do to this country, and be willing to accept the same from whoever it is you hit.

The basic land grab pattern for high acre top ten countries on express is about 25-40 land grabs per day, or approximately 270 turns, @ an 80 BPT. It breaks down as follows:

40 turns spy ops
80 turns attacks
yield per attack = 200(100) or 300 acres give or take
daily average land thru landgrabs = 12,000 acres
150 turns to rebuild land @80BPT

Start of set get the 300 CS + 60 turns for a basic offensive infrastructure
End of set 630-720 turns stocking - reselling/jumping
turns used @ start and end = 1080

this leaves 270*3= 810 turns mid set land grabbing to yield roughly 36K acres.
--- this would equal about 120 countries if they were only hit once.

----------------------------------------
Caveat:
Now granted not all countries are going to go on such a land grabbing spree, and doing the above can very well get your country killed.

----------------------------------------

The land grab problem is two fold, many players know for a successful T3 finish they more or less need to follow the above. However with so few countries, they choose to go all-x and try to relieve the pressure off the server and possibly allow newer players to enjoy the game a bit more. Adding the bots is a good thing in the sense that it does allow for more land, which in essence should lower the amount of times a player country gets hit in a reset.

So first problem is providing more land to give some breathing room to those who would go all-x or just starting to learn the game.

The second problem is not as easy, it has to do with the amount of times a country gets hit in x amount of time. There are DRs, and potential retals, but these do not stop the multiple land grabs or land farming persay. I will say it is not as bad as it was pre-bot though. What follows is probably not going to go over well with many players, please keep in mind they are just ideas. Hash it out, take what works throw out what does not.

Land grabbing should be limited to some extent, or made to be more challenging. For example, after a double tap or second hit in a 24 hour period, a country only yields ghost acres to the country hitting it. A country can get hit a total of 4 times by the same player in a reset and then it only yields ghost acres. For other players looking to hit this same country the total hits per 24 hour period before it only yields ghost acres = 4 totals hits per resets = 12. This allows for 2 players to hit a country and get max acres in a 24 hour period, and adds a 3rd player for whole reset assuming double taps. If players enforce a single hit rule then 4 players can share a country in 24 hours, and 12 players across a reset.

the upside to the above is player could not lose land after were hit 12 times in a reset, but would still yield a lower amount of land to those who want to land grab. Unless someone is specifically looking to upset other players, this should be ok. Then again if they wish to start a war then they have other ops still available to them, whether thru spies, or thru military, or even missiles.

the downside, it changes the dynamic in that offensive countries that usually do not get hit in a reset, become targets, because they still yield more than just ghost acres. especially toward end of reset a t-10 country that has only been hit 8 times across the reset will be a very tempting target. Players would have to decide when they want to be landfat, and be a target.

overall though it would mean more land in the beginning, most countries would want you to hit them to get the 12 hits out of the way, which would allow them to land grab at will afterwards. It would generate a lot of land, fewer players would need to worry about hiding behind land thin countries, which rarely works anyway. There could be added bonus items created, for example: allow players to use bonus points to take a retal against a country, which would yield more than just ghost acres. Top feeds become fun again, although you still run a risk of upsetting someone over the amounts of military lost. This on the other hand would make military and medical tech very important, to maximize ghost acres and minimize military losses. Medical tech has been useless for most player for years and military tech was used by only the most hardened land grabbers. I can see many more Tyranies on the express server, with potential 60-80 mil net worths.

the idea above has its ups and downs... but it definitely has the potential to change the dynamics of the gameplay, and bring back the warring aspect of game. oilers for one would have a field day, if attack levels go up.

How do players know which countries are bots, and which ones are being played by a regular player?

Has a regular player's country ever been misidentified as a bot, or is there a list somewhere that identifies the country names being used by the bots? Just thinking there must be a risk in countries being misidentified and getting hit hard due to such a mistake...

I love these types of convos... from experience, I would say it depends on the server,

However on solo servers in general 1:1 retal. Personally I feel if you go around land grabbing smaller countries and they succeed in retaling your land grab then it is over regardless of who got what. Land grabbing in express is truly a gamble because it allows players to store a major amount turns. The latter is a dimension that some land grabbers forget, what it basically does is allow a player to play 300+ turns with lower expenses and stockpile enough cash to buy oil and military for a retal. With a successful spyop they can adjust their military and weapons tech accordingly, and a good player will for the most part walk away with more land then what was taken from them.

The objective of a retal is to make sure you get more land back than what was taken, and a retal when done correctly is supposed to hurt. The very nature of a retal in most case will be a smaller country hitting a bigger country, because the bigger country usually 2-3x larger initiated the acts of aggression. In express those who do landgrab are counting on players not retalling, and to maintain their game play for a better finish. Things can go a bit crazy if a player loses sight of that goal, or realizes it is unreachable. Land grabbing should, does, and will always carry a risk, to go out land grabbing on a solo server expecting no risk, is dumb in my opinion. Especially on a server like express, where the amount of turns stored gives the advantage to those who would seek to take retals.

There was an old rule in E2025, the land you take only counts if you can keep it... diplomacy and playing style weighs heavily in what others will let you keep. Someone that does a few land grabs here and there, sends a private message out, only hits countries once in a reset, and picks their own target vs. targets in DR, will usually do better in keeping the land they take.

I am going by what the normal reset cycle would be, tech prices high at the beginning, they level off for the mid portion of the reset and then crash at end of reset ... except for Military, Indie, and SDI. The prices above look more like early mid reset prices for tech, which is about right, considering turns available vs. turns used. I have gritted my teeth and paid 6K for tech in the past knowing it was less than optimal, it just depends on the round, and how much of it is available.

Based on the market i saw last night I would be freaking out as a Commie indie, and asking who the heck is crashing the market. As a buyer I was a happy camper, picking up military below my PM prices. What surprised me was, there was very little military on the market and yet prices were low. Turrets at @124 and troops @95 was pretty cool this early in the reset, not for a commie, but definitely awesome for the other strats.

Figure, it is going to take me a few resets to get the feel of what is going on though.

Tech prices when i looked at them last night looked a little low for the start of the reset. Actually Military and SDI were still in the upper range, but for anyone playing farmer, they were getting an exceptional deal. Casher techs looked close to normal. Have not looked at the prices this morning, but I'm pretty sure they should they should be about average. Bushels on the other hand seemed to be selling in $40 range which is good, and oil was in the $200 range so a Fascist should do well. Caveat, is I counted a bit more Fascists then I normally see in a reset, so it is very possible those prices crash.

@KoH, where is crest23, have not seen him posting, but I do agree he plays one nice Farmer. Lol, I should not complain I only take top farmer on express if he is not around ;p -- It's been a while, so for this reset I think I will be happy if I can get a 9-10k farmer up to 14-15 mil net.

thanx for the replies...

@ mrford
there has to be some type of rhyme or reason to the markets, when looking at the scores, there is only so much a country produces, and then the markets need to be favorable for the strat to break thru the 20 mil ceiling. Unless there were some major changes in the last couple of years. I think part of that is because players recall their goods to undersell the current market, or to fulfill small standing orders which then drive the prices down. sounds like the bots are reacting the market direction. If they are selling food at $25, then there are huge opportunities for a Demo to cash in.

@ Marshal, I can see it to some extent on the few servers I am playing on. 8K Agri tech is really hurting :p

@ Celphi what you are describing almost sounds like a Techer's paradise, especially if agri tech is not available. What about the Biz/Res techs, are those in short supply also or still stable in the 4500-3500 range? SDI, Indie, and Military are also staples on a server are those being sold at normal levels?

are the bots playing farmer or is there something else going on? The question though is without food how are cashers and techers surviving without paying really high prices. I can understand the rare oiler reset, it never really was a viable strat for consistent top 10 spots.

what I am thinking is more like because techers made a killing, then more players will jump to this strat, commie was really bad so less players will play this strat. More techers would equal lower tech prices, and lower military would equal higher military prices. Cashers and farmers would have a decent reset, with a handful trying to play the curve, but commies would probably rebound, if not this reset then the next one.

are tech starts still viable on the express server?

Does anyone know what the cycle is like on express, if it exists...

For example:

if Cashers did really well the previous reset and Farmers had a really bad reset then next reset Farmers have a good chance of doing well...

or do the bots stop such a prediction from having any value? If bots do have this effect then barring the bots do you know or have an idea of what the cycle would look like?

there are a couple of things that would need to occur in the middle east, to truly stabilize the region. The main part is in how the lines are drawn between the various sects. There are older ethnic boundaries in countries like Iraq, which should technically be 3 separate countries. (an in depth study into this can be found here; http://csis.org/publication/pandoras-box-0 )

Israel does have a place in the Middle East from a historical perspective, which needs to be recognized. Likewise a Palestinian state needs to be created, and for the most part I see it as Arab countries that are sympathetic to this cause should step up and provide the land for Palestine to be created. <-- i.e. money where mouth is.

A majority of what is occurring in the middle east was created through a calculated division of lands by the European empires back in the early 20th century. The way the maps were redrawn was to pit ethnic groups against each other, to cause civil unrest and keep the region destabilized. There must have been early geological reports coming out of the area showing oil reserves, which would have been a strong incentive to suppress the middle east as it has been for the last 100+ years. Granted the region was hardly a shining example of peace beforehand, but it had an ethnic structure to it.

ISIS is blowback for ill management of the region, it is also a lever or cats paw being used to get to the following:

The New Mediterranean Oil and Gas Bonanza
Part II: Rising energy tensions in the Aegean—Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria

By F. William Engdahl
Global Research, January 27, 2013
Global Research, 3 March 2012

"The discovery in late 2010 of the huge natural gas bonanza off Israel’s Mediterranean shores triggered other neighboring countries to look more closely at their own waters. The results revealed that the entire eastern Mediterranean is swimming in huge untapped oil and gas reserves. That discovery is having enormous political, geopolitical as well as economic consequences. It well may have potential military consequences too.

Preliminary exploration has confirmed similarly impressive reserves of gas and oil in the waters off Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and potentially, Syria."

http://www.globalresearch.ca/...oil-and-gas-bonanza/29609

In light of the above, we need to seriously ask how much of what has occurred in the middle east over the last 4.5 years is truly a coincidence.

The Arab Spring begins in December of 2010, and the Syrian civil war soon follows in 2011. From a political stand point, or more so from a stand point of who weapons are purchased from; Syria would technically belong to Russia thru relations with Iran and China (See SCO - i.e. Shanghai) . In light of new oil discoveries a civil war would be to change the regime and move the Syrian regime to a more pro-western world stance. ISIS/ISIL would have been a cat's paw in an attempt to achieve this. Perhaps it is a monster they lost control of? The alternative being the monster is still under control and has certain useful functions in delivering messages to those who step out of line, or attempt to exert pressure for a larger portion of the pie. That being said the pie is being carved up as we debate this, it also appears like Russia and Iran, have managed to gain some serious ground, at least based on an analysis of recent surface events. Mainly the recent US negotiations with Iran, which may just be a distraction or misdirection, which the current US administration is very fond of using.

In most cases conflict are economic in nature, and it takes a lot of money i.e. financing to wage any type of successful or long lasting campaign, be it seen as terrorism or resistance fighting. The term used by newspapers will depend upon how those writing the story wish such a group to be perceived as. A terrorist group has a much larger array of lateral movement in the sense it does not need to adhere to normalized war conventions. Resistance fighters on the other hand need to adhere to certain rules, to maintain their status as such. Perhaps the limitations imposed on the latter is non-conducive to the task being asked of them or for the region in which they are operating. What is seen however is that their usefulness has not expired. Historically, the fast demise of such groups occurs upon achievement of objectives, wherein top echelon and those logistically holding the organization together are removed. This coupled with a lack of new funding, tends to decimate these types of organizations. Recent drops in oil prices may have been a message to ISIS to play ball or lose major parts of its funding. Although such price drops in commodities usually need to kill multiple birds with one stone when executed, and I can think of a number of scenarios, where such a message needed to be sent.

In the case of ISIS/ISIL, my gut feeling is it is much more of an economic move than some religious extremism in action. I could be wrong, but many pieces conveniently fall into place, with such an organization creating the needed "controlled chaos" from which those with a principal interest can maneuver unseen.

congrats to the top 30... nice job :) -- ebert you are going to need to teach me how to play that strat, only a handful of old earthers I know of could pull that one off. I'm lucky if I finish with a 15-16 mil net country, usually 12-14 mil net. --lol, mostly paranoia on my part and running with too many turrets...

I would have killed for oil prices that high a couple of years ago. with oil prices like that, an all-x demo oiler could take a top ten spot, especially if bots are selling food in the $29 range at the end of set. The oil price crash looks more like players dumping their oil after reaching their land goal. Possibly a good marker to convert to MBR and burn the extra oil for added units on the PM if the public oil price is too low. The latter would need to be calculated, to determine the break point.

btw a top 10 fascist farmer is possible, hard but possible, end of set low food prices is normal when players are destocking.

a demo casher could work if timed properly with the bot cycle of buying low at the start of the set and then selling high at the end of the set. could be interesting with low mil prices at the end of the reset, which is probably the excess CIs trying to get a few more turns in, by selling to MBRs... alternately it is just a handful of Theos making some additional cash to buy out their PM at highly reduced prices.
