I used to play ages of strife (good game for those with time available: not me anymore), and they opened the translations up to the community... got 4 languages done in a month or two... similar content and quantity to earth.. just have to trust people before you let them at it.

It's a good idea, but probably not essential given that everyone online (especially in text based games) will have to understand basic web-english even to find the game... and to interact within it (at present).


If it's not a priority why not setup a page specifically for it (either on sthing like wiki or just make a quick database clone solely for translations).. gets the ball rolling for development much farther down the line at a minimal cost/time requirement.

Edit: Slagpit's post came while I was typing... yeap, that's a pretty important pre-requisite :D

Yea but less so... express is a bit mental like that. I survived the last couple of sets sitting up high in primary but it's always better to jump late anyway. Depends how many enemies you've made (earned?)

And most do not switch to mbr to destock Ice - I'm amazed at how few do.

lol agreed... an em is just a red rag... if he's gonna get annoyed at you missiling, you'll get him annoyed... if he's not then you're still not doing any significant damage. save your em's for the end or to soak up spy ops ;)

Before the abolishment of the 2Bn limit I remember talking about how inconvenient stocking was on 8 hour cycles... so I vote for 8 hours. It does say in game in the market page so easy to check when the next reset starts.

Isn't is relative to your comparable nw's? (i.e. a straight %age wouldn't give it - it depends on the attacker & defender nw's)

I don't have an answer but it should be very easy to test in FFA.

Yes I expected #13 to jump again. I don't know if the date changed mid-set but I had thought that the last day of the set was today (30th)... I had another $5M nw in the bank. Perhaps the same happened to Political Ponerology?

i.e. I sit there netting, see a country killed and run some spy ops to rape the food/cash - completely stolen from under the nose of everyone who killed it... better?

I like that too... first 3 offensive spy ops against a dead country yeild 50%, 30%, 20% of it's remaining bushels and cash - not enough to make it worthwhile killing someone for, but still a bonus.

Some things to consider:
Would it make sense to have it so one single player couldn't get all 3 ops?
Would it make sense to limit the gains to only those who attacked it in the last 2 hours? (help stop opportunistic stealing - although you could choose to leave that in... he says hopefully)


I don't like the idea of directly rewarding killing - there's too much suiciding already - but a spy op feature sounds good.

Nice, a question and a few comments:

q: do you mean to reduce grab losses, but increase ghost returns (so you lose less land but the attacker gains more?)

Tourney has a high proportion of all-x strats already, which increased explore gains would add to. I think the increased ghost acres would be enough in itself.

Really like the idea of a 1b limit to force stocking...

I'm not sure about contstantly selling troops - that would imply a commie would win most sets or a reseller, which isn't usually the case.

qz is spot on in that grabbers usually win. I won a couple of sets back as a farmer, but it was a grabbing strat... I took 8k acres on my way up & was lucky not to hit any clans or suiciders... netting and grabbing are not mutually exclusive.

if you check the attack on eestats i know it's shown there as [grab acres (total grab acres inc ghost acres)]... so compare what the newsfeed says and there's your answer.

If you further reward grabbing what's to stop two clannies from exchanging blows to gain more nw? It's close to being worthwhile doing this already, when you are of similar nw. We already have examples of clannies gs-ing each other to put dr in effect in single player servers.

Skillful attacking isn't the question IMO, it's skillful target selection that's key... even then, you never know when you hit a clan member in disguise and spend the rest of the set having ab-wars with 15 players you've never touched (happened to both me & my ally in primary, despite being a no-clan server.. yeh right!)

I am usually a grabber rather than all-xer btw

yea same ^^, but ABC are all happening plenty right now. Both in express and primary. You just got to live with it or fight your corner.

I don't like the idea of tying names down, as the new players would be identified fast and farmed forever more. Anonymity is a benefit to both new players and those wanting their allegiance to remain unknown, so it cuts both ways.

Off the top of my head, how about:
- each user has 3 countries; 150 countries per tier (or weight it as forgotten suggests 150, 225, 225);
- you are relegated or promoted on the nw of your lowest country each set (or poss ANW?);
- you can only ally with your own countries, making a true solo-game;
- each of your countries must have a different govt type at all times;
- if any of your countries is killed, you restart next set in the lowest tier.

This would add numbers to make the tiers more plausible and also provide a more true "solo" or tournament game.

@bore, I just noticed that the final scores don't appear to be accurate for the last express reset. It's taken the scores on the penultimate turn as the final standings (so missed the final jumps)

Not a biggy but thought you'd want it flagging up - I'm well impressed by how the site's shaping up.

Agree tech prices were ludicrously low for the last two days. It was a good set for farmers though - pity about the suiciders spoiling things for a lot of folks.
