I'm not saying that we havint gained any new members from other alliances/people coming back that weren't in LaF before.

I'm saying that the members we are gaining from those avenues are only enough to counter balance the retirements we have every round or possibly even a little less.

Thus if that was the only way we were gaining members, our membership would be fairly flat or even have a 1 -3 member per reset decline. It is the half dozen or so old vets we hoodwink into coming back every reset that has keep us at a 2 - 4 country per reset growth rate over the last few rounds.

we have just had a lot of people coming out of long retirements the last couple resets, helped keep the net growth rate even or positive.

archiving member emails over the years pays off.

not having a pact doesn't mean you can retal whoever you want and expect to get away with it.

Your hits on us were landgrabs, as such we were going to retal them. Just as we would have accepted your retals had you actually retaled (which you didn't).

I don't understand why you feel that a lack of pact somehow meant that we weren't going to retal your hits.

why should LaF be punished for managing to retain a lot of their members through the games steady decline?

LaF was a mid sized alliance back in the day, its not our fault that all the other alliances shrunk so much.

Not contacting us or responding to our attempts to contact you? Thats a paddling.

Retaling all explore countries instead of those that LGed you? Oh you BETTER BELIEVE thats a paddling.

How is our lack of a pact LaF's doing?

We didn't approach Rage to sign a pact, Rage didn't approach us either. I don't see how that is one side's doing more than the others.

The issue here seems to be land:land retals. LaF has enforced land:land retals on non pacted tags/countries since 2002 or 2003, it isn't a new policy and it isn't going to change.

How are lost bushels not to be compensated?

I'm quite certain LaF isn't the only one that says that reps/retals are done in PS.

if people are willing to use SS retals thats up to them, there is nothing saying you can't. However it has always been the case that people have the right to use a PS strike for such a purpose, even if PS returns more.

And I didn't realize that giving a list of countries and acres lost was an implied/tacit indication that it is how the distribution is going to work out? Isn't that just for a record of how much is owed? heh

I mean such exchanges of country #'s and info occurs with pretty much every reps case, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone try to make a claim such as this (and I've been doing FA work for LaF since 2000).

At the end of the day LaF lost hundreds of millions (if not billions) of dollars worth of bushel stockpile in the suicides that we did not ask to be compensated for. Overall we were definitely losing out on this deal, and were more than willing to accept/already wrote off that net loss.

I don't see how pissing on the deal, which was already a very good deal for PDM, is a wise decision.

But LaF hasn't went above what is owed, you still owe land.

The distribution of the land isn't your decision, its the decision of the defending countries.

If we want to give all the acres to just 1 or 2 countries, thats our choice. If we want all our countries to PS (and some countries don't get to hit because the reps are all done before they got their turn), once again that is LaF's choice.

Also, are you seriously going to try to argue that PS isn't the standard attack type of retals/reps now?

I don't understand, how are we suppose to avoid taking more than what was owed?

You can't punch in how many acres you want to take in a grab, you get what you get. Retals/Reps are always taken in PS form, thats just how it is. If someone did decide to send a SS and failed, would you allow them to try again? I highly doubt it...

The fact is that if you didn't want them taking that much land in their hits, then perhaps you should have offered countries as reps that were going to give yields more in keeping with the reps owed, given that you KNOW that hits are going to be PS.

Overall, this thread/decision = shenanigans

I've been talking about shortening the retal window to 48 hours for a few resets now.

WIth all the turns we have now compared to before... People don't need/shouldn't have that many turns to prep for a retal.

I like how he looks at policy as static and reverses the cause and effect.

Policies to deal with suiciders exist because we had to deal with a lot of suiciders in the past, and saw the need for a policy. It wasn't a forward thinking "this may happen in the future, better prepare for it now!"

Besides, most of the time the people suiciding on us are people in tags we have not been grabbing.

I'm sorry, but what does pacts have to do with it?

people apply L:L on unpacted countries, thats how/why land:land was developed to begin with.

But people usually apply whichever policy will yield more return (land:Land or escalating).

I actually revise my previous argument, we should remove the 2B bug.

It will throw the game into disequilibrium for a reset or two, but then it will settle in a new balancing point. At least that balancing point will be something new and potentially interesting.

Thanks to servers like team and tourney, we can get more test runs in to figure things out.
