I am a ford guy. Thats why I am coming here. I got a chevy s10 1991 for free. The timing belt went out in the 4cyl and im thinking of doing one of two things. I'm leaning more toward the v8 swap. I also thought about putting a 4cyl in it, or fixing the one thats in it and putting a blower on it. Reason thinking about theh latter is MPG lol.

what do you all think? I'm going to make it a daily drive as well as a weekend warrior. I also have another 4cyl that I drive daily I just like the idea of having two Vehicals i could drive daily.

if i cant figure out what to do Chevy wise im just going to throw a 302 in it and go carb.

lol, I drive 45 mins to work. So MPG matters I was getting 14 MPG with my supercharged truck and still paying on it at 100k miles so I think I did the right thing. =]

putting a 302 in an s10 is putting lipstick on a pig. what u will have is a money pit. unless you enjoy working on the truck on the side of the road and backyard engineering fluff. punt the fluffer, and get a dedicated vehicle. if you want a hot rod buy a hot rod. dont try to make a multi purpose vehicle. what youll end up with is a multi purpose piece of fluff. i have seen it a thousand times...........

early 90's s10s are worthless POS's. also they dont have timing belts, they are pushrod motors which means it has a timing chain.

you could probably get a solid $300 for scrap value out of it, plus a little extra if you cut off the cat and sell that. that sounds like the best option then you can buy some spinner rims for your kia.

yea, I went to a message board they told me timing gear. I'm going to fix it as I miss my old truck. I might just get that engine thats in it running again and drive it till the wheels fall off. heh

timing chain broke that may mean it bent a valve or two,i do not think it is a non interference motor,i would still think it best to fix what is in there.
swap a v8...sure then the transmission will need to be swapped oh then the rear end wont hold v8 power.:P and much more nickle and dime changes.

Honestly, switch up to a new model 4cyl stick. Something small for MPG. Im getting 30mpg on my 2012 auto and i drive it like a retard. If I drive nice and if it were a stick i would get a ton more/

If you are wanting a good running engine that does the job with out tons of hp, I would go with an older late 70s, early 80s 231 V6. If you are looking for a little more oomph and a lot more customisability (is that even a word?) I would go with the 4.3L Vortec from the late 80s through the 90s. Both should fit without too much modification. If you look for a 231, look for the one with the distributor in the rear of the engine. You should be able to find either of them for 2-300 dollars.

I drive a Jeep Wrangler and get 12-15mpg. My advice is to sell the piece of fluff for what it is, buy a beater for mpg.

Want a nice car that gets good fuel mileage? Buy a Datsun 280z.

You could sell it and buy 3 5 series, or 5 3 series, or a whole bunch of 1 series. I also know several ladies Rollin in amg kompressors that would birch slap you for calling them old.

My cousin is head of IT for Mercedes corporate so I may be a bit biased. The only beakers I cab agree with are 7 series, or high end m class

Lol!, never owned a KW, had a 379 Pete that i bought new in 2000, then in 05' i ssold it and went with Volvo 770, can't beat the fuel economy from that swap, went from 5.3mpg to 6.8mpg, adds up quick when you drive 135k miles per year ;)

The farthest production gas powered engines will go is direct injection, twin turbocharged. Seriously, you aren't likely to get much better than that.
