Today parliament erupts in celebration for the end of the federal gun registry. There will be loud cheers heard throughout Canada. To magnify the ectasy a flufftail party will be held afterwards to celebrate the vote that ends the assault on gun rights and freedoms.

Gun dealers will no longer have to record information on the guns they sell nor to who those guns are sold once the bill is passed.

"This is wonderful news for gun rights across Canada" said one federal conservative MP. "For too many years the freedoms of firearms have been neglected. They have been held down and trampled on by the liberal left of Canada. Today we, as conservatives, have taken a stand and shown to the world that we reflect the priorities of Canadians. We are executing the clear mandate given to us by 11% of the voting population who were clearly informed of the bills and changes we are now seeing passed through parliament."

"Our priorities are clear. We value freedom from government interference and intervention in private lives and we respect the right of inanimate objects to be free of liberal oppression."

In other news, the Protecting Children From Internet Predators Act being tabled by the conservatives is set to make its way through parliament. The bill will require internet and communication providers to allow government agencies to monitor and access all customer information and usage history. Service providers will have to record information on the phones and internet packages they sell and to who those packages are sold once the bill is passed.

The bill will protect children from child pornographers.

"This is a great day for freedom loving Canadians across the Western provinces!" said Vic Toews. "I'm going to get loaded at the flufftail party and go inform John Baird's smoking hot new 20 year old intern about the sanctity of heterosexual monogamous marriage. Privately, of course."

Tough on crime, soft on guns. I guess the École Polytechnique Massacre in Montreal didn't worry to many Westerns.

its fake, its satire. The quotes are anyway.

The actual accurances (passing of the bill kiling the gun registry, and the child porn related bill) is true and accurate.

Oh FFS... terrific. Let's just give everyone a gun - we can be just like our American neighbors. :p

The Registry was directed at rifle owners. Owning or Possessing and handgun still falls under the RESTRICTED weapon category. The bill targets shotguns and hunting rifles.

When you think of GUN CRIME in Canada, it's stolen handguns (which are still tracked) as well as illegally imported weapons.

While there are gun crimes associated with long guns, it doesn't warrant the amount of time and money we spent on the registry,

I think the biggest points of interest are:

- The bill to eliminate the registry also eliminates the requirements for keeping any information about the guns/rifles sold or about the person who bought the gun.

- The child porn bill enacts legislation that requires telecom service providers to keep, and make available, all information and activity of all their customers.

The RCMP/Police access the registry thousands of times daily to check if someone in a house might have a firearm. Sounds pretty useful.

Essentially the government has declared (by throwing a flufftail party to celebrate) that freedom for unrecorded firearm ownership trumps individual privacy. They won't say it with their mouth but their actions are screaming it.

Really this only affects hunting rifles and shotguns, which are very rarely used in crimes in the US, much less Canada. I doubt there is going to be a homicide stampede. Mostly its going to lift a bit of regulatory burden from already law abiding canucks.

Drama anybody?

BTW, Canada has more firearms per capita than the US, but less gun crime. The long gun registry was expensive to start-up, but the maintainance costs were relatively low.

Yeah my grandparents are really terrifying people, being what? 70ish and living/working on a trap line in northern ontario.

We TOTALLY need to monitor those types of shifty people and their crazy gun habits, won't somebody please think of the innocent bears!

Wow they can track stolen handguns? That's a pretty cool trick! Why don't they go and recover them? :P

All registration does is let the gov keep dibbs on people. There is no need for it anyway as once a person buys a gun they couild sell it, give it away, or have it stolen anyway. Gun laws only hinder good people from getting guns. You can bet all your money the bad guys will have guns regardless.

Deerhunter your 100% valid statements will fall on deaf liberal canadian ears. they think guns are evil and the 2nd amendment only applied to the revolutionary war.

i think thats a big win for canada. registering shotguns and rifles doesnt prevent any crimes.

No... we think the 2nd amendment (or anything like it) does not exist in the Canadian constitution. Thus, when it comes to Canadian gun ownership, it is a completely irrelavent point.

A very large percentage of Canadians in rural areas, like here in Nova Scotia, are hunters. The problems with crime and guns are with handguns. Those crimes are mostly committed in cities I think. The long gun registry just puts unnecessary regulations on the rural population, but because the majority of the population lives in cities there is a lot of stupid debate that says long guns should be registered. For once, our government is doing something that makes sense.

im not talking about our 2nd amendment applying to you. im tslking about the arguement that dumbasses put up when trying to discredit our second most important amendment.

its ironic how people who grow up around anti gun sentiment never learn to think for themselves. youre told guns are bad and you shouldnt have them so you end up with that mentality yourself and refuse to see anyone elses point of view.

i never grew up around guns, but ive realized that there is a reason for the second amendment and i am obligated to exercise that right.

I'd be more worried about the child porn law with big brother tracking your every online move... I mean, if people want to get a gun, they can find a way. legal or not.

Thats for sure elveresus. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot and other murderers of citizens with the wrong thoughts are not far in the past. Assad is killing the Syrians as I write. The chinese are smashing the Tibetans. Who knows what will happen in the next 30 years.. whoever is in power will have the data if we start letting the police collect it now.
