I plan on getting one or the other in the next few weeks. I have a feeling the market is heading more towards streaming and less towards blue ray so should I skip that, or get a blue ray with wifi.

i use Zune for movie/tv purchases now, has the option to stream or download. about the only reason i see for getting a blu-ray player would be if redbox supports it. i've only watched 1 movie on blu-ray so far.
not sure if netflix can be used offline, but Zune works offline for the device that the video is stored on. fails to stream from my PC to the xbox offline. might just be missing updates though.

Yeah I think PS3 Media Server works with xbox now. You just select which folders from your comp you want to share, then the media server should show up in your main menu hub and you just find whatever video you want to watch in your folders and play - seamless streaming.

I'd go with the one that has a future longer than the lifespan of the media. I'm going to enjoy it when all this blu ray crap is pointless due to the DRM with no way to play it.

zune streamed my junk better than windows media center, i don't quite understand why purchasing the PS3 Media Server will enhance my experience with streaming from my PC to my xbox.

is it a purchase? looked kinda GNUish to me...

crap. forgot that i got an F in computer literacy... i shouldn't be using the G word...

no, you can do it with it Zune, or Windows Media Center. you're not required to buy an external device that uses upnp to do it.

figured that you might accidently stumble across your brain with a piece of toilet paper before i actually had to mention it. my bad.

PS3 Media Server's free and open source.. It's just software to allow you to play things from your computer on your ps3/xbox, basically the same as Windows Media Server but easier to use imo (fluff windows media player).

haha, women:P but seriously PS3's a great general media device. My buddies parents have one and they don't own any games lol. You can load up shows/movies on its harddrive, stream them from your computer, watch blurays, watch Netflix, browse the internet.. oh and play games too I guess. Pretty easy to find one used for under $200 too.

My problem is that I have a daily bandwidth cap. (Unlimited at night between 11 PM and 4 AM)

My bandwidth during the day is good enough to stream an episode of a tv show, but not enough for a full movie. So what I'd really like is a device that would allow me stream a movie at night but watch it later during the day.
