What is wrong with you people? From legal advice to doctors to forum food preparations.. have you ever heard of a recipe book?

Advice offered by anyone could impose certain liability issues whether they're a chef or not. Please, go and see a real chef and refrain from asking for forum culinary science.

PhD's make you less employable in architecture, because you're seen as someone who knows the theory, but not the reality of practicing the profession. The exception to that is if you spend a couple of decades working in the profession and then go back and earn a PhD.

the kindle has 2 things going for it - it is terrific for reading text, and you don't have to pay for the 3g wireless connection. The internet browser sucks and music function is barely passable. If all your wife needs is a reader, and maybe occasionally check email, than the kindle is great. If she wants a device that can do more, than the kindle is probably not right for her.

As a kindle owner (I typically spend 3-4 hours a day on mass transit), the main issues I have with it are as follows:

1. It can not handle graphics in books - there is no zoom function.
2. It is very easy to break the screen. Amazon will replace it for free within the warranty period, but it's a pain in the neck.

What I like most about the Kindle:
1. It is not backlit, which goes a long way to reducing eyestrain. Yes, you may need a book light, but it beats staring at a tablet for hours on end.
2. The display is very high contrast - you can read in direct sunlight.
3. As long as you keep the wireless off, and use it to read books, the battery lasts forever. I've gone 2-3 weeks of regular use on one charge.

My main concern with the Nook is what will happen to its market and support when B&N goes out of business.

driving the wrong way on a one way sidewalk...

A friend of mine had to jump over his parked car and into the street to avoid getting run down. My work at the time's land lord gave us about 10 minutes notice that they were going to repave the parking lot, and one of the other tenants decided it would take to long to drive around the block to park (it was a one way street), so he drove along the sidewalk to the next building's parking lot without checking for pedestrians).

If you want to piss people off, go the speed limit in the right lane on the Jersey Turnpike... works every time.

When I or other people look back at the history of this game, we don't go "eww and aew" over clan A and clan B fought for many sets in a row. We look at the records people have gotten fo networth, and at the clans that are always at the top. No one looks down the top whatever list.....until they find a country with lots of kills....but crappy networth. Just sayin.

(btw, I like to war and net....so I'm not biased on this)

I think I speak for most of my cohorts when I say that I would rather have a challenging war than something one sided. NA has kept things interesting so far (though they need to do more than match us kill for kill to win), so for now I'm happy. But if someone else joins the party, I won't complain.

A blindside will always be just that, and can never be coded out of the game. But don't take the element of preparation and coordination completely out of the game by nerfing attacks. Active defense is a meaningful way for an alliance to distinguish themselves, and that shouldn't be taken away.

At the same time, I'd like to see killing made more difficult. Walling is one of the fun elements of war (and a great equalizer), but 7 second kills take it away.

Cgr4: SoF had a very specific and adequate cause last set, and only had one condition required for surrender. Did we try and force our will on your alliance? Yes, but your leaders put you guys in a position where we felt we had to.

If we were gunning for netting alliances, we'd be killing NM, Evo, LaF, or Omega (which ever one lost the coin flip). Hell, if we were gunning for netting alliances, NA would be pretty far down our list.

cougar's frustration is that we are a war clan without a war. I am not a leader in SoF either, so I will not condemn him for venting.

As far as any alliance being top tier, the game isn't big enough at this point. As far as being big bad wolf, we'd be hitting NA or some other netgaining alliance if we wished war for it's own sake.

AE: I thought the main tenant of the Tea Party was shrinking government, and weakening the control of the central government, and putting historically government provided services and regulation back in the hands of private industry?

Or is the Tea Party not quite as libertarian as I thought? My main issue with the libertarians is that the while the government is terrible at regulating private industry, private industry is worse at regulating itself. If you want an example of that, look at the Schools Construction Corporation in New Jersey. It was run by construction company executives, who returned to their prior employment after they siphoned the money away. McGreevey gets the blame for it (and he definitely deserves some of it for leaving the foxes in charge of that particular hen house).

That and the social conservatism of the majority of the candidates the tea party backs (as the son-in-law of a lesbian couple, "protection of marriage" is a non-starter for me, and as someone who was raised in Judaism, trying to sell me a christian based government for our christian based society is not the way to win my vote).

To set the stage, I am a moderately successful professional (not an attorney, and not as financially successful as you) who in addition to serving private clients also does quite a bit of public sector contracting (providing professional services), at all levels (municipal, county, state, interstate, and federal). I am also closely involved in reviewing my municipality's budget (a role I volunteer for). On that basis I have a pretty good idea of how government functions, and where it is efficient, and where it isn't. I also see a hell of a lot of waste, an awful lot of which benefits certain lobbies and interest groups which are either publicly backing or bankrolling the tea party movement (again in my state, may be different at the local level).

While it may not be true of the national movement, the local tea party seems to be pretty interested in passing the buck down the line - here it's passing it from the state government to local governments (which in my experience tend to be less well run, and more at risk for corruption, and more profitable for those with the right connections, which here means to right attorney).

As a professional who gets most of my work based on the merits of my ability, rather than political connections, I would rather work with many of the state agencies that the local tea party is trying to shut down, because they are far more competent than the many of the local governmental entities I've worked for.
