So with oil prices falling everywhere else in the world, maybe some of you oil moguls will follow suite.

My people are already starving, and while the decision to buy oil rather than feed them is simple, I'd rather not be in that position. Regardless the technology I research, fuel cells still seem to be out of my grasp.

Ahh, thanks for the analysis. Guess I always found that paying 1.2M in expenses per turn was hard to manage. I'll rethink this.

I gotta say that I've received a lot of helpful advice on this forum about effectively playing. Haven't run into too many headaches that would cause me to ragequit like done by some former players.

The techer strategy is pretty fun, especially the times when oil and food is really expensive, so I'm forced to work through it while still remaining technologically productive. The hidden gem I've found this set is how building military bases saved my ass, even though most techer guides I've read through suggest a pure research base approach.

I don't understand how attacking a country with 15k land gives me (I had ~17k land) only 70-something acres w/a planned strike.

That's the costliest attack ever. Maybe pacifism is my thing.
