"Scientists do not disagree about human-caused global warming. It is the ruling paradigm of climate science, in the same way that plate tectonics is the ruling paradigm of geology. We know that continents move. We know that the earth is warming and that human emissions of greenhouse gases are the primary cause. These are known facts about which virtually all publishing scientists agree."

Stop being so damn dense fazer.
Try to absorb what galleri posted to you instead of reacting with your knee-jerk whine with triple exclamation points. You're close to another ragequit and we all see it and some find it amusing.

You make a public spectacle of yourself.

You, and only you, are the one that shot your credibility all to hell. And in SPITE of your set-after-set-after-set purple history, there have been multiple individuals and alliances that have tried to assist you only to be burned by your near-pathological inability to take good advice to heart.

If you are bringing new players to this game you are exposing them to a negative gaming experience due to your history here on the forums and ingame. Of COURSE any tag you create is going to have a bullseye on it. Of COURSE you're going to be trolled on the forums. That's the bed you've made for yourself.

And now you play the victim again, and insist on special treatment by the game mods. You want them to do something for you that they do for no other player or tag.
What have you done to deserve such special treatment?

You didn't give a damn about my alliance's clean reputation when you went purple in it. It meant nothing to you that we had a streak of _well_ over a decade w/out even a hint of rules violations.

If you want to gain a modicum of respect - even in a game that has no bearing on RL - you're going to have to work hard at earning it. Don't expect someone else to do it for you.

Joe Bonamassa Beacon Theatre - Live From New York
Guitar master rockin' the blues!
Two hour concert in 1080 HD

At about 37 minutes in, Beth Hart contributes her powerful vocals to a stunning cover of Brook Benton's I'll Take Care Of You and Ray Charles' Sinner's Prayer. Also includes appearances by John Hiatt and Paul Rodgers.
If you're into blues rock ala Eric Clapton Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck you'll love what Bonamassa brings to the stage.

8^\
..but thanks for the kind words, you're an A+ friend.

I'm just hoping NASA is going to justify the hype.
A lot of the speculation is that they are going to announce the confirmation of organic molecules. If that's what it is I'll really not be impressed; 'organic' in this sense doesn't necessarily mean that it comes from life at all.

It only refers to chemical compounds made from carbon bonded to hydrogen. Essential TO life as we know it, but not necessarily FROM life.

We already know that such molecules can be formed in simple chemical reactions within 2nd gen dense star-forming intergalactic clouds and can be found on comets and meteorites and even on interplanetary dust particles. We already know such particles must rain down on Mars all the time, as they do on Earth.

The instruments on Curiosity cannot directly confirm the evidence of life past or present; they cannot distinguish whether any organic molecules they may find are biological in origin. That will be for another mission, possibly - probably - by ESA.

But it could detect what i described in my first post here. And that would be worthy of the hype we've been hearing.

Anything less, following this 'earthshaking' and 'for the history books' kind of hype, and i'm demanding a refund!

I'll give a shot at a half-educated guess ;)

Considering the sample location and its history, it is very difficult to predict what they have found.

They are sampling in an ancient stream bed going back to the early days of Mars when organics were produced and sedimented under a thick atmosphere.

Then the Gale crater was filled with aeolian (wind blown or wind eroded) sediments well before the atmosphere was thinned.

And now aeolian erosion has excavated down to the stream bed again.

I'm going to take a guess that they may have found the 'desert varnish' suggested by previous imaging of Mars.
(ref: http://www.astrobio.net/...71/desert-varnish-on-mars)
On Earth, desert varnish is a clay coating found on exposed rock surfaces in arid environments. This varnish coating is typically about a micron thick and on earth contains iron and manganese oxides and organic matter formed by microbial processes.

Although desert varnish testing with high levels of Mn would not be direct evidence of ancient life, it would be very strong evidence indeed.

Galleri i'm not sure what the official line is, but seems that using your admin access to 'check a few things' for your alliance might be a bit unethical.

I mean, i can understand using your admin access to change your country name within five minutes of creation, i see no conflict of interest there.. and the first login after midnight (+20 acres) at the same time with your safelisted 'other' over and over and over again _could_ look a bit suspicious to an outside observer, well i suppose that could be explained as "a really close relationship, we do everything together!" but using your admin access for researching info for your alliance leader - was that part of the job description?

Almost makes me wonder if, when Pang gave you boxcar admin, your haha comment that you can see who's online in Monsters (even though we're invisible) was more than a joke.
? yes i am 99.9% sure the boxcar thing was a joke but

The bottom line, unless every tag on the server is allowed to have at least one member with admin access to research opponent's members during war, i think this is an issue.

"We can't possibly understand why God works the way he does"

aka the God Works In Mysterious Ways conversation-ending argument.

But the end result of that, is no different than what happens when in a universe with no god at all.

The original question posed here on this thread is similar to my own, decades ago.
Something like this:

If there is a god that created all life here on earth, and (s)he/it loves us, why would (s)he/it create deadly microbiological life forms that we could not even detect with the senses (s)he/it gave us and neglect to warn us about them?
That's a helluva practical joke and has nothing to do with free will. It is nothing other than sick and twisted.

You would think (s)he/it could have at least finally found the time to letting us in on that joke with a Top Ten Commandment something like "Thou Shall Boil Thy Drinking Water and Wash Thy Hands Frequently".

But I can only surmise that (s)he/it was too concerned with the competition (Thou shalt have no other gods before me) to concern (s)he/itself with the untold hundreds of millions of children alone that died from bacterial and viral infection.

Indeed, that's beyond MY understanding.

I hear you Mr Emerald but first off i don't give a flying pickle what you look at on the internet just realize that there's no reason to run around in public talking about what you saw there. ALL THE TIME.

And I wish i didn't have to explain every detail but ok I'll put it out there. How this community griefs me about what I have to say might have dissuaded me before but dammit I just about quit this game last set and I may leave after another set anyway so i am just going to say my piece. May as well do it here and now. If this was only about me i would have posted this long ago. I just hope I'm anonymous enough here so that some innocent people will remain anonymous too. Ban me if you see the need.

A little over two years ago I thought it would be fun to get my then nearly 14 year old grandson into the game.
He's a math whiz and watching me play the game when he was at my house caught his attention. It was different than the usual games he's been around and to be honest I was really hyped that it would be a way to interact with him maybe even on a daily basis. Something we could both be involved in even when miles apart.

I was playing on Alliance and Team regularly at the time. My alliance was really good about our forums content and i had no worries that my grandson would be in a good environment.

That didn't work out.
His Mom (my daughter) saw some offensive country names on the servers and would not allow him to play. Back then i thought the names were pretty mild and really, my daughter is not a prude.
But there is some backstory. My grandson has a little sister, two years younger. She was assaulted when she was ten. She still suffers from that experience and perhaps always will. We all will.

I'm no prude either. But having had that happen to my granddaughter at such a young age opened my eyes just a bit to a subject I certainly had been aware of before but only from afar. That Event made me think of all the crap a young girl or even adult women have to deal with on a daily basis. The innuendo, the unwelcome and often graphic advances and slurs. Uncool jokes that I, too, had participated in for much of my life. You might say that out of respect for my granddaughter, i made the effort to see the world from a woman's point of view.

Children, adolescents, can't be 'protected' from everything. That's a given. But the 'grown man' that assaulted my granddaughter saw sexual jokes in everything. He had a reputation that my daughter was unaware of when she moved into her new neighborhood. A couple of neighbors eventually told her about this guy's sleazy behavior when he got drunk but what happened was pretty much unavoidable. You can't keep a child locked up in the house or on a leash. Maybe this happened to my granddaughter because this POS was never directly confronted in the past, or people just put up with his fluff, or laughed along with him. They thought it was raunchy, but generally innocent, fun.
Look around these boards. Look at the country names. That happens all the time here.

So a couple years have passed. my grandson recently turned sixteen. Can he play this game yet? He wanted to. So again my daughter looks at the country names on different servers yesterday.. she emailed to me a few that she found.. Martian fluffs Sheep. oh haha funny - oops can i not say that here? why not? it IS a country name. fluffagion? Lovely.

Yeah i know, nothing a 16 yr old hasn't seen/heard in high school. My daughter is trying to be a good parent. She has the right to prevent that stuff from entering her home. But think about it.. these are ADULTS making those country names. An entire group - mostly grown men - took over the Team Server 6 or 8 months ago with the noble name of Team Sex Offenders.
Now there's a name to be proud of! how original! how imaginative!
how mature! oh? not any of those? well then it MUST be funny right? yeah right. Funny to who, exactly? What goes on inside a grown man's head that thinks that is funny?

Hey it's not just the people here that do this. It's everywhere. Isn't it rather amazing that here we are well into the 21st century and so many guys are still treating women like fluff? What is WRONG with you? Are you afraid that if you don't wag your junk at every passing female someone will think you're gay? Are you really that dense?

All i'm saying is take a quiet moment to look at your behavior and be your own judge of character. Don't wait until someone like me can't take it anymore and goes on a rant.. be an adult, identify and clean up your own mess that's in your head.

And listen up, you wannabe misogynists.. you're a less than average guy, and most women I know and have ever known are heads and shoulders taller than you. They have to deal with your stupidity every day and carry on.

I can't believe I stayed up all night thinking about you pervs with one day of vacation left. You suck.

ZEN i posted because i saw twitter getting bashed here in response to a serious request by a Game Moderator. Look upthread! It was obvious from the replies that most people bashing it haven't a clue.

If you doubt twitter has uses other than Hollywood Tonight type crap, just do a simple google search for 'twitter for academia' or 'twitter for science' or 'twitter for business' or get specific like 'twitter for metallurgy' and you'll see it has serious uses and is a powerful tool if you stop looking at it as if it's nothing but a toy.

Really, except for a couple of serious responses, the crowd here was doing what it always does. It really does look like some of you grown men are still waiting to see female genitalia for the first time outside of a computer monitor.

If you're not whining at each other for thread upon thread over this or that grudge you're trying to hunt down yet another picture of boobs or butt.

There's very little 'adult' here other than 'wannabe adult xxx' and I am, more than ever in the past 15 years, ashamed to show this game to my contemporaries for fear they'll come to AT and see this drivel.

But of course, I suppose I shouldn't expect a bunch of teenage boys to understand what I mean when I tell them they are acting like children. At least my teenage grandson is maturing out of that phase.

Y'all are closed minded, ya know that?

I'll concede that maybe a twitter feed for most EE players is of little use but if you have hundreds of millions of bushels to destock, the end of set warning at 72 hours is a little bit of worthless too.

I'm always aware of the EOS for Alliance server. But I do enjoy the Primary server from time to time. When I start a set in Primary I have no idea what my time constraints will be a month into the set, all I know for sure is that my Alliance game will always take precedence.

I would find it difficult to believe that mine is a unique situation in that regard.

So yeah there are days I miss logging into the Primary. There are times my turns overflow there. There are times I login for two minutes from my phone just to cash down some turns and hope for more time the next day. And there are sets when i log in and am surprised to find there are only 40 hours left in the set and I'm sitting on a few hundred million bushels. Maybe an ingame daily countdown starting at midset would help.

But this thread was asking for ideas for twitter and a bunch of you responded like frickin' neanderthals having already given up on trying to figure out the uses for a frickin' wheel.

Twitter IS what you make of it, just as Facebook is. For me, twitter has much higher value than FB, outside of 'social networking'. It seems that many of you have no clue how it can and is used in an adult manner. Are you all still 16 years old?
