I work for a big multinational. I've mailed all my European colleagues to start playing this game and they all agreed.
All communication of our European plants go through centralised mainframe servers in Italy though. So mods, please concider all 16x12000 (I could be a few off) countries tagging xFocusx as being individuals playing through the same servers and IP's. Honestly, we won't be cheating, I promise !


And I suppose there are more dutch-speaking people around here than one would expect.

I'm from Belgium, speaking Dutch, but I have no problem with English.

Another option could be leaving the actual game in English but give the option to get the frontpage and helppages (info on gov., info on tech, etc.) in another language while keeping the ingame used syntax.

Example (in Dutch) :
Tyranny
+20% winst bij aanvallen
-10% Militaire onderhoudskosten
Slechts 1 beurt per aanval
-25% Maximuum inkomsten per inwoner

This way it shouldn't be hard to get around with the game, even if you're new and aren't very familiar with English.

Let me point you at something easier : When you start the 60-day set at the first wednesday after a reset ends, you (nearly) always end at the first saturday of the month 2 months later, apart from a few exceptions (like when the month February is involved, but you have the same problem now).
The 30-day sets in team and Tourny are more difficult (read impossible to schedule to always end on a weekend).

Does it actually matters when a set starts? Even if it's in the middle of the night, you'll have to wait for turns to do something anyway. Be honest, what can you do in the first hours of the set? The earliest, people can even get OOP in alliance is after 31hours. People run startups/their country at a time that's good for them.

Only maybe the 12/18h bonus turns can matter. It depends if the counting starts from the first login after the start of the set or the actually start of the set itself.
Then again, is their one person on any server that's capable of login exactly after every 12/18h of the entire set? I've tried it once on Swirve and I must say it demands a LOT of effort and compensating when you have a family.

I don't think it's really important for anyone when the set actually start. Most will agree that it's better to be able to play till the end of the set.

Ending in the weekend gives the majority of people at least the chance of being there, even if it's in the middle of the night. During the week this just isn't an option if you have to get up for work at 6am.

The break between sets would be exactly the same as it is now, but the focus would be on the set-ending instead of the set-start.
Another option would be making the length of the set variable like ending on the first or last saturday of the month and starting again on the next sunday or monday. Breaks between sets would be minimised that way and everyone would be happy. :P

I know you just can't do good for everyone if it comes to time of day, but ending a set during the week is worse than in the weekend.
An end of set on saturdaynight (keeping the same time) should possibly give everyone the opportunity to be online.

Is there a way to take people from outside the US in consideration when determing the end-time of a reset?
Like in Express, we're missing out a lot of turns because the reset end at 2am, on a monday night, West-European time.
I don't think a lot of players can justify staying up that long for a game when they have to get up early for work, school, etc...

Maybe determine the end randomly at the beginning of the reset so it aren't always the same that have the disadvantage?
Or find a day or time that fits more than just one continent? Why not end somewhere between Friday @midnight and Sunday@noon?

I realise most players are from the US, but if the game grows, sooner or later one will have to consider this, I guess.

In a fast game like Express, there is a big difference in selling stuff if it's LIFO or FIFO.
If it's FIFO, and you want a bigger change for your stuff to be sold fast, then you have to sell at a lower price than someone else.
If it's LIFO, then you can just as well put it up at the same price as the market. Yours would sell first anyway.
FIFO sets more competition at playing the market.

hmmm, a name that pops into my mind for primary is "Basics server", as you say it mostly attracts new people to start from and it hasn't any complicated politics going on with clans etc. The "unofficial" rules within the game as "basic".

I'm trying primary out for the first time ever now and I have to agree with Snawdog. If you're used to playing in Alliance, FFA and/or Express, then primary seems extremely slow.

Non-build acres shouldn't generate food or population as it does now. It actually shouldn't generate anything unless build. In RL you aren't getting anything for land you do nothing with either.

Forcing people to build the empty land in order to benefit from it would make it more competitive for all and make self-farming less interesting without removing it from the game.

It doesn't change gameplay, but it would be helpfull in many ways I guess.

Playing from 2 different locations doesn't get your countries deleted otherwise mine would get deleted several times a reset. :P
When I play at home It goes through an Belgian IP. When I play at work, it passes Italian servers which result in Italian IP's. I've never had a problem with that.
My only concern would be someone else on the same network (and that are a few thousands of people) would start to play the game too.

When I login to the forums I first get the message with my nickname and that the login is succesfull then the screen goes to this :

Access Denied!
Possible Reasons:

Donny,

You made one big mistake. You took it all personally.

Impulsive reactions on a board like this is never good. Too many assholes around who's only light in a day is to stir things up. You were probably right about a lot of things, but the truth is... eventually nobody really cares. The real talks are on IM's, not here.

I'm sure you're a great guy and a great player. Leaving the game would be a loss for all of us.

Nothing personal but you guys should have protected your member from making a fool of himself this set. No, I bet you guys were amused how he was being ripped apart on this board. Protection also sometimes means protecting him from himself.
