ok so i had 10 APT on all 16 of my FFA countries before using any bonus's. they were all below 10559 acres which is the cutoff from 10 to 9

i used my bonus points on turns and for explore bonus

so i assumed my rate would be 11 APT

these were my results:

You discovered 1,330 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.1 APT
You discovered 1,245 new acres of land in 131 turns. 9.5 APT
You discovered 1,254 new acres of land in 131 turns. 9.5 APT
You discovered 1,372 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.4 <-- this one said 11 APT for some reason on the explore screen, the rest all said 10, even though the explore bonus was applied to them all
You discovered 1,323 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10
You discovered 1,354 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.3
You discovered 1,285 new acres of land in 131 turns. 9.8
You discovered 1,326 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.1
You discovered 1,370 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.4
You discovered 1,324 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.1
You discovered 1,276 new acres of land in 131 turns. 9.7
You discovered 1,285 new acres of land in 131 turns. 9.8
You discovered 1,365 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.4
You discovered 1,345 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10.2
You discovered 1,262 new acres of land in 131 turns. 9.6
You discovered 1,315 new acres of land in 131 turns. 10

159.9 / 16 = 9.99375 average acre per turn

so if the bonus was supposed to give me +10% on 10 acre per turn, which should be 11 acre per turn, why did i actually get a fraction less than even 10 acre per turn when using the bonus??

thats ~2,096 less acres total that i missed out on!

Damn, I used this bonus today myself. If it's broken, I demand my 6 bonus points back!!! :P

mmm it looks like it works fine at the higher acreages... maybe something about rounding, i'd have to look at how it's implemented

mmm yea, that's what it is llaar... the +10% wasn't enough to bring you up 1 APT for most of your countries, except for the one where you had 11 acres; probably had slightly less land to start with...

APT isn't fractional when doing explores.

For example, as a rep with 48 APT normally... with 10% bonus i saw 52 APT i believe near 1800A... it's multiplied into the formula before all the rounding and display is done, so what you see on the explore turn *is* after the bonus is applied

hence the 11APT in one case


It actually slightly moves the explore points around as a result...

hmm so let me see if i understand it correctly. it works like this:

1. underlying APT is unrounded. bonus applies to unrounded APT.
2. after bonus is applied, round APT.
3. display and use rounded APT as the real explore rate.

so if the unrounded explore rate is 9.5, adding the bonus will make it 10.45. in both cases (pre and post-bonus), it will display the APT as 10 and uses 10 as the APT when actually exploring?

Wouldn't rounding the bonus first (rounding up) then applying it to the rounded APT fix things?

mmm well i suppose but it'd look funny to say 10.1 APT; we could also just not round, which would be the same, but again, it'd look funny

Just round the one you display, but use the unrounded to actually calc the acres gained in the explore.

Myself I think it works fine as it is. You guys just need to derive/determine the new explore rate tables with the bonuses active.

You see, the explore bonus is applied in the same way that the rep explore bonus is applied. So when the explore bonus is active, the points at which your acre/turn drops are different than when the bonuses are not active. Figure out these points, and you'll be good.

At least the table for 20% explore bonus for non-reps is easy, it's just the same as a rep with no bonus active. :P

It would be fine as it is, just so long as the bonus doesn't become completely worthless at lower acreage returns.

qz's solution seems to address the issue just fine.
