Never thought it would burn down. How did that happen? I was in Paris twice. That is crazy.

I've heard they ruled out terrorism right away. Although, the first thing that came to mind is the Yellow Jackets as they have lit a bank etc on fire.

The only thing I heard is they said it was unlikely that it was deliberately lit because they thing it started near the roof which is hard to get to and its unusual that a deliberate fire is started so high in a building.

They are sayng electrical error is most likely.

I saw a tweet about this today I thought was really on point. It said,

"Watching something that took centuries to develop, something that can never entirely be recreated, disappear in the blink of an eye -- that, in slow motion, is going to be the dominant feeling of the 21st century. Only instead of buildings: glaciers, forests, species."

There are already institutions donating huge amounts of money to rebuild the Notre Dame, which I think is great... but everyday it's not only cathedrals falling down...

Ok, let's fix some of this:
The whole place is not a loss. The structure still remains. The roof is completely gone. The stone arch roof remains.
One of the three main stained glass rose windows have fallen out. Most of the other stained glass windows are okay.
The spire has fallen down. But it was in the process of being restored and the 16 statues that were there, were removed 5 days ago.
As I said above, the main structure is still there and fine. Nothing has "burned down" like what is being said.
Lastly, the "treasure" (sacred objects) are safe.

They have also stated that the Organ is intact. Between that and the Rose Windows, those were the things that I was most concerned about. However, from the way it sounds a lot of people are essentially circling the carriages and are funding the fix. Did learn something interesting from my kid, apparently this is her favorite building.

There are better Cathedrals in France. If y'all are gonna visit check out the Chartres or Reims Cathedrals.

Doesn't Notre Dame usually wait until November to collapse?
