Boxcar Extended Downtime Announcement

Hi all,

On the weekend of November 5th, 6th and 7th, we will be doing some extensive server maintenance on the Boxcar server, which will lead to some downtime.

To alleviate any extended downtime, we'll be hosting a clone of the Boxcar site on a temporary server. This server will be online starting November 5th in the afternoon and anything you do on the site during the "downtime" phase will NOT BE SAVED when Boxcar is back up on Sunday, November 7th.

The temporary server will be slower than the normal Boxcar server, but the goal is to allow clans to have access to their site data and real-time news and stats while minimizing overall time the site is offline.

An alternate site during down time? Awesome. I was just thinking about how clans were going to organize their KRs that weekend to take advantage of Boxcar being down :P

ya, it'll be transparent in terms of how you get there and stuff

the only difference is that anything you do on the site will NOT be saved. so if you make a new user, edit permissions, make posts... all of that will be lost when the new site comes back up on Sunday.

This is being done in lieu of complete downtime, with no access at all. This way, alliances will still have access to their news and data.

There will be SOME downtime while we move files

The bots are not up yet, as I'm still rebuilding parts of the news db's, but I have this set's data + the forums data up, so you can start using it.

Boxcarhosting.net doesn't allow the links to work properly still, right? We had all our guys use Boxcarhosting.com which isn't functional.

And what I mean is when you link someone to something, it wouldn't work unless they were logging into Boxcarhosting.com instead of .net

i think he was meaning that the links wouldn't work properly because they're for a different domain name(cookies can't be shared crross-domain)

so if i was logged in via .com and wanted to show a friend a link but he was on .net, he'd have to change the .com to .net before it would work.

Didn't realise u'd registered .net think u can use some fancy url rewrite in .htaccess to make all links use same domain. *shrug*
