the game is too small to rely on pacts - pacting complicates things, leaves people butt-hurt when they're hit or left without a pact etc (I think you might identify with that) so we have tried not to pact if at all possible

Running oilers the round immediately after oil market was relatively high may not yield favorable results for a couple of reasons. Who really knows, though.

I didn't really.

I find it difficult to keep up with those that change their nick all the time so I usually just smile and nod when they talk like they know me and I should know them.
