If someone was to bet me whether or not this (alliance) game, in its various iterations, has enjoyed literally millions of thoughtful man hours.. I'd have to really think about that bet; a number with six zero's fix after it seems pretty big. Year after year, wardec after wardec, alliance after alliance, year after year & again, this is still, somehow, some strange, awesome corner of the internet. Dated and ugly, but with a real, human history behind it. Brought online in 1997? The community framework itself is nearly of legal drinking age.

Out of curiosity....why are you still here? what was that defining moment that made you call yourself an Earth Empires player? Why did you click on this post, old timer? :)

Nostalgia for one.

(Most of) The folks here are good people and as time has progressed, we've been able to interact and play other games that in 1997 (28.8-56k modem), weren't technologically possible.

It's a community of players, especially the ones who have been here since the first few years that really understand.

"Man! I forgot to login today!" or "I need to wait 1 more hour to login to receive bonus turns!"

I enjoy the fact this game is not resource intensive. I wish this game this game would change to be less irritating to play. http://www.earthempires.com/...us-bar-42001?t=1480056062 It's like one of those needlessly annoying quests in RPGs, the "It's just a little problem" which results in a hell a lot of trouble to go through for very little reward.

I get absorbed in this game where I find most other games boring. I enjoy the challenge of building good countries and I think the market is a great feature. The need for quick math skills is great. But I think one of the main things that makes the game addictive is that however hard you try, by learning, by good playing, by hard work, by diplomacy or by having good allies, there is always going to be some asshole who pounds your country into the ground and ruins your day. Its that element of risk and the effort to reduce that risk that makes the game so absorbing.

Started playing because a friend asked to, and it was really easy.

Kept playing to piss off someone who wanted me gone. :P

Then developed more and more friendships. People like Tirol who befriended me, trusted me, and who I could really enjoy spending time with.

And the game is insanely easy to play. :P
