A friend introduced me to the small random games in fall '99, during grade 11 computer science. I was recruited in to UCN shortly after by Prophet, while my friend quit playing a few months later.

Common theme, there is a large percentage of us still playing that started between 1998-2002 and were in jr or senior high school at the time. I am one of them.

There are a few other demos out there, but just from speeding reading responses, that is my conclusion.

Hey, my story's unique! A couple of friends were playing in 10th grade, so '98. Spam tag, then Infidels, then TMA, then SoF for literally one day before following Clappy to MD.

I know, just joking around. Still see the commercials late night on TV though. Can't imagine how they could be a thing these days, or ever really for that matter.

The fact that this is a text game isn't the main reason its declining. Its a reason but not the main one.

I remember my first few sets being completely swamped. I remember my very first set coming from utopia. I remember being like 50k nw and threatening some guy via message that I had like 10,000 troops and to watch out... Haha he probably thought who is this idiot I've got millions of turrets. Thinking back I really had no clue, I didn't know about multies, I would get farmed all set and not realise shy, and its think it'll be great if I can just get to 1,000,000 nw. Honestly I loved it. Every new set I was filled with excitement about the set ahead. What big clans were gonna war. In those days you had wars with 6-8 tags eaach side. There was loads of threads on at and it was bustling with excitement. My little tag sitting on the sidelines, oh my those were the days. I got recruited and the rest was history...

I want that bustle back into this game... So sad to see this thing in its current state... Sigh

Saw a kid playing in high school in 1997 or maybe it was 98. What amazes me is that some of theLCN old timers are still around from those days. And if you stuck around long enough, you got free grammar lessons.

Xmas 2011 when WW4 server went down for few days, I was off work for holidays and extremely bored so looked for the other EE2025 clone I knew existed. Played a couple of sets, dont think either one was full set of playing. Was gone for about 3 years until I was recruited back here middle of 2014.

I feel so old seeing so many playing from school during late 90's lol. During my school days the net was fairly new.

i started this game waaaay back in grade8 1998

SOL 3~5years -> IX 2years or so (until its collapse)
back to SOL for 6months and then SOF from 2010~present.

a friend introduced me to the game and got me hooked while he lost interest after a few sets.
i tried to get friends interested but they all quit after 1~2months.

this game has and always will be a way to escape work when im bored.

we should to a "what year did you start playing earth"
ill bet 90% of the people who still play this game have been here this whole time..

luxury, i started with pentium I, 133 MHz (overclocked to 150 MHz and worked at 120 MHz), 4 MB RAM, 1.2 GB HDD, crappy 2D graphic card (Diamond Stealth something) and 17" monitor. netconnection was optical fibre but dl speed was ~100 kB/s.

I came in with the invasion of the MD MUD into e2025. I think that was 1997? I don't remember who, specifically, from the MUD I would give credit to, but I was programming on the special rooms and tools the MUD used to run our e2025 ops.

Those rooms, bulletin boards, books, player objects, etc are all still there on the MUD, btw. It is fun to go back and read some of the old messages from the MD Council room board.

My character still carrier the "Earth Teller" object, a spinning globe...

It was my junior year in high school so '97-'98, we were over in the computer lab doing "research" for a Chemistry project and one of my buddies was playing a tourney country. I asked him what it was, and started playing shortly after. Moved to 1A sometime after and joined up with AoD probably in the beginning of '99. It's been off and on ever since.
