We all love Express and obsessively play it even though certain rules changes seem misguided to us.

Through the years, certain players who like the economy building aspect of the game have managed
to remove many of the war rules which gave Express its original zing.

We are left with a GDI which removes any semblance of a war game. Large countries plunder small countries
which have little or no means to retaliate, but do not engage each other, cashers claim top ten spots having invested
only twenty minutes in game play throughout the week and without ever having made any tactical decisions.
GDI is essentially free with no disadvantage for joining and is de facto mandatory for a top finish.
Spies, tanks, troops and missiles have all been removed from the game.
Express does not have to be this vanilla.

I say restore the original rule set.
Players complain that random malefactors can ruin a good player's set for no reason.

If the mods feel that there must be some protection against random acts of violence, have the humanitarians object to any AB or GS
launched against a player who has not double tapped the launching country. GDI serves it's original purpose and Express is
restored to it's former glory.

GDI is even free if you use bonus points. So when you get ABed into a parking lot because you didn't join GDI, you basically asked for it to happen.

I remember to good old days when there was a primary and a tournament and that was it. The fun was having a team of alliances that stood togehter (before the free for all and tags) I remember my group would kill the top 10 each day we had a lot of fun using AOL IM to communicate real time from around the country.

maybe this is the best set of rules we can hope for

except maybe an advantage to not joining GDI would be the ability to drop land
that would be outstanding

It's an opinion of what is considered cheating. The suiciding on a single tap or no tap at all is what drives people from the game and if no one wants to play then the game goes away again. If you don't want to be grabbed by the "big" countries then simply become one if you have the skills. If not join a server where you can learn how.

The simple truth is, if someone wants to grab your country, they are going to.
