damn GDI for not letting me nuke you in the last minutes of the reset :p <-- this needs to be changed, if and when someone attacks a country inside that protected period :) retals should be whatever the GDI country considers appropriate for such a transgression :p

when all of the top 24 players have joined GDI,
and that statistic holds true every set for months on end,
it is self-evident that GDI needs to be substantially weakened
SUBSTANTIALLY

I would suggest that if a GDI country breaks GDI for any single opponent,
they forfeit the protection for all opponents.
In addition, if one joins GDI, one loses 3-8% of any unused turns upon a successful SS or PS
and finally, members of GDI can only hold 150 turns unused, not 360/360

those simple tweaks should make for a much more interesting set

This is the only part I can sorta kinda maybe, or not, agree with in some ways.

Technically, its a membership for "the good guys", so to speak. So, when a member breaks "the [unspoken] rules" by multi tapping one guy while on GDI, they should be kicked out of GDI for being a bad member.

You always hit me an hour before GDI kicks in and prevents LGs I would say that it kinda last minute :P

Why wouldn't you join? The only possible advantage not being a member provides is enabling you to be a bellend and go on random AB/GS sprees.

I suppose if you implement the first point someone could become the White Knight of the bots and go after the bot farmers. Which would be a shame, because it's much easier for me if the big fat commies can be left in pease to grind out all those 100 acre grabs and I can just do a couple of big ones.

It is no longer a strategic option, it is simply mandatory and the game is much less interesting.

I think GDI is fairly balanced. It cost you money to be a member. It restricts the amount of hits you "want" to make on a single country. It restricts late set hitting.
It still allows pest like ops like tech stealing, food/oil burning and bank bombing....

Maybe once the few of you anti GDI protesters run non-GDI country and have a good chance making a top 10 finish and get blasted by some random nobody just to drop you out of it you will have a much different opinion on the matter.

And it's pretty laughable talking of unbalance while suggesting turn differences between GDI and non-GDI members..... That hit my jolly spot good and hard :-P

The cost to join is ludicrously low given the benefits received. That is why Temple says there is no possible disadvantage to joining. If it started at $5 an acre and increased with the size of the country to $100 an acre for countries over 10,000 then the cost may be a factor but as it is now, cost is no factor.
GDI does not allow tech stealing but that is a minor point.
I agree that it is annoying to have a random nobody single you out and destroy your set. That is the principle objection I hear to fixing GDI. That problem can be fixed with a Humanitarian Objection. We need not abuse GDI to fix that problem. By the way GDI does not even fix that problem. If you double tap a GDI nobody, suddenly they are allowed to use AB,GS missiles etc. That is absurd. A couple of sets ago drkprince got double tapped and to use his words "he threw away his set" to take down a top non GDI country. The minimum number of hits required to break GDI should be five. If GDI is used to protect against random nobodies then it should apply to weak GDI countries as well. If you allowed non GDI countries four free hits on a GDI country, then balance would be restored.

I am very passive in how I feel play should be conducted. But I appreciate all looks on it if always within the rules that do not warrant deletion. I do not think anyone is gonna get rid of GDI. So you better just join it or have fun with the others who dont.

I like the way GDI is in express. I wish the other servers were the same. Solo servers anyway.

Just farm bots man. No need to grab other players 4 or 5 times in a set that lasts less than a week.

There are more than one country every set who's sole purpose is to keep the top 25 as clean as possible of non-GDI countries.

If you are playing for networth and score, and you want to run that risk without joining GDI to save a few bucks, you go right ahead. You reap what you sow.

How is GDI abused set after set? Why do you think people join? The game has a ranking system for a reason, everyone should be playing for score.... If not they are just a scrub(even I in the past)...

You can keep asking why. There is no reason. Everyone is different.

Maybe some users have played hundreds of matches and it gets to be the same old same old. Non-GDI countries stick out like a sore thumb asking for it. What, top 25, 23 are GDI, and 2 are not. Those are also the only 2 who can be ABed and made a parking lot. So its kind of obvious what will go down.

So hitting non-GDI gives them a theme to play by and something to play for. Its more fun ruining sets of guys who think they can make it without GDI. So it happens. Its the nature of the game and its environment. Why do sharks go after blood in the water? Its how nature came to be. Same thing with non-GDI hitters. You walk around without GDI, and nature will take on a natural path. But there is no reason to any of this. Everybody is different.
