We're easily mistaken for conservatives/Republicans, because as a general rule, we believe people should be free to make their own way. Republicans also *claim* to believe this - even though they never act on it - so on most issues libertarian beliefs line up more solidly with Republican talking points.

And, the Democrat party continues to push anti-freedom agendas (wage controls, health care takeover, theft and redistribution of wealth, whatever crisis they can invent tomorrow..) so people who hold libertarian beliefs usually absolutely hate the Democrats... slighty more than we hate the red team.

The problem with todays political system is the fact that all politicians are bought and paid for. Now while I dont agree with the way Trump presented himself, maybe we need someone in office that isn't in it for the money. (also not saying he isn't) but someone who is not a career politician would be a nice change of pace. Maybe the media would stop force feeding us gay marriage, confederate flags and Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner, and we could focus on uniting the people of this country instead of dividing them.

If I previously had the freedom to choose whether or not to pay an insurance company's markup on my health expenses, and the Federal government takes that choice away from me, that IS anti-freedom.

If my 60 year old wife and I previously had the freedom to NOT waste our money on things like maternity insurance or chemical dependency insurance, and the government forces us to buy those things, *doubling our premiums*, that IS anti-freedom.

If the government decides that the fruits of my labor are not mine, that IS anti-freedom.

I disagree here. A truly libertarian government does still have rules. Libertarianism is not anarchy. You are free to do what you like *as long as* you're not doing wrong to someone else. IE: Laws against fraud, theft, etc stay in place.

Honestly, we at this point are so far away from a free market and a free society that we could not just turn around immediately and fix it overnight. But it is time we start the process.

Perhaps the saddest irony in all of this is that the only way to ensure a truly liberated candidate would be to completely alter the way campaigned finance is done by significantly restricting the accordance of first amendment rights to special interest groups. Excessive regulation always benefits somebody, and that 'somebody' is always willing to pay for the outcome that will benefit them.
