ok so for those of you interested in grabbing OOP you need to be certain it is worth it. an explore turn before 1920 acres yields on avg 45 acres. so minimally the attack needs to yield 90 (45 times 2 turns) and another 45 acres (135 total) for the spy op taken (assuming you only took 1), for it to be more efficient than exploring OOP - and for the sake of this lesson, doesn't even include military losses and oil costs. nor does it include costs associated with grabbing someone who runs a different strat (i.e. having to knock down those buildings and rebuild properly)

true old pros can calc military nw without ops, and blind send OOP. but that's a whole different story.

so for the case of HydroponicAvocado (I'm assuming this is bepulse unless someone made the name in homage after his win last set) we have two grabs relatively early OOP, and certainly earlier than 1920 acres reached.

so here we have at least 4 turns used for a gain of 96 net acres, and probably at least 1 more turn spying. maybe more. so at least 5 we'll say.
potential lost 5*45=225 acres from 5 explore turns.

so let this be a lesson to you all.
don't try to grab OOP at home without adult supervision :p

omg i'm slow lol, looks like bepulse made those grabs right after reaching 1920 acres, so his marginal loss from grabbing instead of exploring those turns was slightly less than I had thought before :p

and without getting into sharing ops or sharing too much info... the dude/bot def didn't have too much cash on hand when you hit him. how much cash did you get for the grab (mods - if this is allowed? which i think it should be)

Yeah dhs suck hard. Especially when cause of a typo..

Not as bad though as the time I accidentally bought out all the bushels in my private market instead of tanks.

As for the cash I grabbed, I'm not sure whether I can share spy op related info, but I'll say that I at least got a lot more cash than I would have produced in 5 turns otherwise.

I did not spy, instead I calculated the units to send which maximise gains. At this stage in the set that requires an oversend so you can pretty well count on breaking. Here that expectatin is encouraged by the targets primarily being bots. I did spy the last one. For each there were buildings, bushels and cash as well as the land and ghost acres.

You do not, at this stage, immediately knock down the buildings. Later some or most will go but for a while they give a worthwhile boost.

I suffered one prompt retal which needs to be set against the gains.

I was at 713 acres at the start of the run.

there's just not enough targets.

If you start grabbing at 700 acres, you will eventually get to 7k acres and will have to start recycling your targets and risk special attacks/missiles... or wait for DR to go down on bots.

If your goal is to get a top 10 it just won't work. Of course, there are other ways to play in which a top score isn't the end goal :)

Well, you are right, bepulse, and I would - except that I usually play techer. :)

I don't think I agree about targets, Buttman. Here I was mainly grabbing from bots so the point does not arise but even before bots I did not run out of targets in Express. That might be a constraint in tourney.

At 700 acrea you jad to maximize your sent units to oversend? That really isnt a factor until 12k or so that ive noticed. Especially for solo servers

Equalising networth is the most significant factor, bstrong, as you would expect. But the number of units sent is also significant, or so my experience suggests. This is a bit different from oversending to increase ghost acres, which I think is what you are referring to with your 12k comment.
