I am a mets man, trying to make the kids nats fans, seems to be working. The only one of my teams I am steering my kids away from is the mets, the rest they can enjoy and suffer with me. The mets are uniquely disastrous and heartbreaking.

Not sure about that. Royals have been heavily watched because if the 29 year drout etc... Royals swag has sold only 2nd to the dodgers this post season. Our market is smaller so that's impressive.

I think our payroll is somewhere around 90M right now. No where near the top guys. They've done an excellent job managing the money they spend. We have a heavy backer who owns the team so there is a lot of funds available and he has been particularly good at allowing our managers to spend money the last few years.

I hope he continues this.

This is the highest payroll the Royals has ever had btw.

I get some of the hatred of the Cardinals because success breeds hatred. I hate the Yankees and the Red Sox for exactly the same reason.

But I do enjoy (beyond being a Cardinals fan) that the top payroll in baseball was bested yet again.

So, top 5 payrolls:
1) Dodgers - Lost in NLDS
2) Yankees - Missed Playoffs
3) Phillies - Missed Playoffs
4) Red Sox - Missed Playoffs
5) Tigers - Lost in NLDS

Teams that are left are 7th (Giants), 13th (Cardinals), 15th (Orioles), and 19th (Royals).

I don't get the hatred towards success part, I guess I would have to be a liberal to understand that mentality, I applauded success all my life, with that being said, I'd love to see my Giants in the WS again :-)

it would be fun to see a comparison of pitching vs fielding/DH when it comes to salary. probably safe to say the giants are at, or just about, the top of the list for pitching. hell, their starting rotation is probably 80mil alone (including lincecum)
