Hey all, it's been awhile (4-5 years) since I stopped playing last. Is the theo/tech route still a viable strategy or have things changed in that regard?

Thanks.

Sure, still viable.

Depends what server. Tech prices are usually pretty high on 1a so its often a good start if you can rush to an ideal tpt and sell on the public.

How do you do a theo tech start anyway? Do an indy to 2-3k acres then swap to teching or a better way?

Sure. You can either do indy up to 2k-3k, then build up the CSes while the indies are making units, sell those to fund the switch later to tech.

Or you can just straight up build labs and tech a few turns of tech to sell as you build CSes. Since tech is expensive first few days, it sort of works out as well.

What type of BPT would I want to achieve?

Based on your land goal. Ideal BPT is normally calculated as (Buildings to build in remainder of reset / 4 * govtBonus)^0.5

I have done a theo farmer as food is always easy to move, plus you can sell it at lower prices and still make a profit compared to private market.

You can switch once you get around 3k acres and gradually build up to 10k-15k. Max as much tech as you can and then switch to military bases and play the market buying and selling and stocking up food. The more land you achieve the better but I've finished top 20 with a 6k country a few times. If you can get 20-30k you are golden as it will take a while to be able to buyout your private market and resell on the public.

I like the idea of starting as an industrialist and doing a bunch of grabbing w/o building on all of it and building cs and then switching to techer.

I have not played since Earth 2025 and remember little about the game except that it is fun. Is there a framework/rule of thumb to go by to develop a Land goal?

Yes. Go to http://www.eestats.com, and look at the final rankings of previous resets, and gauge from there. You can look at the news and see when players started/stopped grabbing, and etc for each reset.
