I'm sort of in a loss with the racial card being used either that or just plain oblivious. Other than him telling his mistress (who happens to be half black) not to post herself with black people, how is this racism? Never once used a negative term against blacks. My good friend, who is black, said he really does not see that big of an issue other than him telling her to do these things in private. he called us black, well, we are black. Am I missing something?

LOL This also cracks me up. The democrats are getting mighty desperate to bring the issue back into the media.

After all, if you oppose their agenda, you must be racist, homophobic, or just plain stupid.

There is no longer a need for people to be running around claiming that people are racist. If they are, they're usually stupid enough to do something overt and expose themselves.

Besides, have you seen his mistress? She's way hot. I gotta admit, a long time ago, I dated a half black, half mexican girl and she was really good looking too. Something about that combination works really well it seems.

is this thread for serious?

do you not see an issue with what he said? would you see a problem if a black owner said 'white aren't welcome to come to my games' or if someone said 'i dont want you hanging out with the jews'?

im sure the same idiots who were screaming about 'WHAT ABOUT TEH FREEDOM OF SPEECH!111oneone' are also defending this asshat.

those idiots must not have passed middle school because they don't realize that freedom of speech gives you freedom from the gubermint, not freedom from public opinion/your employer. sure, you're free to be a bigot - if that's your thing. however, the public and your employer also has the right to protest/complain or fire yo ass as a direct response to your comments.

there's nothing wrong with this situation except for the comments that the bigot made.

not everything needs to be seen through a left/right prism; sometimes people are just assholes. that douchebag is one of them.

the part that made me think "this is actually an issue..." is when he said that he provides for black people on his team as if they'd be out on the street without him. that's pretty ignorant.

This dude has been a douce for decades, this is far from the worst thing he has done. Be once decided to not pay the coaches and made them sue him for their pay. He also lost a 4 mill lawsuit that was over discriminatory housing practices (he was a slum lord)

The only difference now is the Clippers are relevant now. He bought the team for $15 mill and it's probably worth mother than 600 mill now. He has actually been holding that franchise back, and he needs to be gone for the good of the nba, if this recent fluff up is what gets it done, I'm all for it.

Like i said, the only thing I see wrong was the fact that he did not want her to post herself with blacks. But he did not elaborate why though. Yes, I know he has been guilty in the past but I'm still on the fence with this one. His mistress is half black half mexican. If he was that racist, then why was he with her?

Hate to say it I disagree with ya Trife. Both men should be on the same level regarding their comments. Personally i think the media is trying to start a racial war. Why are they are more focused on Sterling's words vs what Barkley stated. To me it's same same.

Trife Game profile

why? they didn't make ANYTHING close to the same comments?

that's like saying

guy 1 says to stranger: hey man, how's it going?
guy 2 says to stranger: fluff you blackie, you should still be on a plantation
and then saying that they both deserve to be labeled racists

they're more focused on sterlings words versus what barkley said for a reason. it's like how people don't have a problem with what mister rogers says, but they sometimes have issues with what the late fred phelps used to say.

both have the same rights. he has the right to say what he said. His employer has the right to chose whether he wants someone with that view point to be employed by him.

but on a side note. the media does like to overly blast the racial card on whomever it can and whenever it can. and will lie about the facts to help support their claims.

He should have gotten the fine. The lifetime ban was stupid.

Thos is going to come back and bite the NBA in the ass. Just like MLB suspending A-Rod for 211 games when their policy strictly said 50 for first time offense...

They have an NBA constitution and he was protected by that. He is going to sell his team, get an assload of money, sue the NBA and he is going to win even more of an assload of money if not partial or even full ownership of his team.

Mark Cuban went on about this the other day.

Dont take this as me defending this guy for what he os. He os pathetic and there is no room for that fluff anywhere, especially in the national spotlight, as an owner of a major professional sports franchise, but the NBA has policy and they have to follow the policy they have in place. That policy, unfortunately protects this man from having his franchise taken from him for his current actions.

A huge fine, sanctions, sure. But not his entire franchise for life.

Furthermore, the very same sports media drumming this up right now, has known this guy was scum for 30 years. Why the outcry now? Where were they the last time this guy went off on a tangent? They have enabled him but now that the clippers are relelavent, they make more money due to the public demand. That is sick in my opinion.

As a realist i see that it is going to backfire. And ot just set a very ugly precedent for future issues, should there be any.

I saw something last night, i think it was jeremy schapp and he was saying how over the last 3 decades sterlings reputation was that he was the worst owner in the nba and it wasnt even phathomable that he could actually be a worse person than he was an owner...

Hit the nail on the head.

im pretty sure (or rather, i'd like to think) that with the army of lawyers that the NBA has, they had them check to make sure they had the legal ability to go ahead and ban/fine him before banning him for life and fining him 2.5 mil dollars.

he has so much worth its a drop in the bucket for him.

Lifetime ban is pretty crazy on an owner.
I really don't think the NBA thought this thru well at all.
But when sponsors start bailing then they act.

Unfortunately for the NBA in this case, they have a set of protections for players and owners... one that protects him in this case

We will see how it plays out.

The media and further, David Stern should have done this many years ago, before the clippers were worth anything.

Few things that are important, he doesn't own the team, he owns the franchise rights. If the overall corporate entity thinks his running the franchise is hurting the brand they have built in the ability to force him to sell. This is capitalism at it's finest, the other owners know how much sponsorship money could potentially be lost due to him retaining the club and will force him out. Secondly he knew the conversation was being recorded, he had his ex record all their conversations to help him recall what was said latter (as reported by ESPN).

He's also a hypocritical POS so bonus points for karma.

A few things..

Its fairly obvious that yes, she's setting him up. Trying to get him to say something even more stupid and inflammatory than what he's already said.

Its also fairly obvious that yes, he's either a racist or he's afraid of the racism of his friends or others. He's a coward. Or a racist. Or both.

Yes, I believe his employers (or in this case, those with whom he has contracts) have every right to refuse to associate with him. Just as he has every right to believe or fear whatever stupid things he believes or fears.

But I wonder, for those of you who think his lifetime ban is the best thing ever... would you feel the same if it were someone else... someone who has views that are currently accepted by society at large. Lets say someone has an employer who hates Obama. Would you find it acceptable if this person's significant other goaded him into defending Obama in an argument (which was being secretly recorded), then went to this person's employer with the tape, and the employer fired him/her for his/her political beliefs?

I would find that acceptable, but I wonder how many of the rest of you only believe in freedom of association when it is used against those with whom you disagree.

And Cee... the fact that he's dating a girl of a different race doesn't mean he can't be a racist. Plenty of slave owners carried on relationships with their slaves.. would you say they weren't racist because they had sex with some of the people they owned?

Kareen Abdul Jabbar said the best things and has the best position on the whole mess.

His point were,

1. Everyone is so concerned about what the guy said and no one has paid any attention to what the man does. (deny housing to people he deemed racially unfit)

2. The conversation was private, and who ever recorded it violated the laws concerning these actions and by listening to it, he felt like he was an accomplice.

3. Even the NAACP had named Sterling as a "Man of the Year" at one point during all these goings on about the man's racist attitude (of which there is ample proof due to many, many lawsuits concerning discrimination over housing and jobs)

4. TRIFE is a liberal MORON who's mind has been so open for so long that his entire brain has fallen out and has even starred in some grade B scifi/horron movies. If anyone sees it, please return it to him so that he can finally stop being an imbecilic liberal lemming bandwagon rider.
