pros, less time spent on building cs's, cheaper priv, maybe batch exploring more often.

cons, lower tech %s, lower income than rep at same land, lower explore rates.

and other thingys.

if you are going to be rep later then start as rep since there's 14% or higher penalty (military, money, bushels and techs losses) on 2nd govt switch and you'd then spend turns to build cs's to get bpt back up and later that'd cost more than early set.

I just did some math, a rep casher on *** acres only produces 111,671 whereas a theo casher on the same amount of acres produces 140,573. given I don't have any tech, I wonder how long it would take a rep to catch a theo?

Theo - Population 6496 - Per Capita Income $21.64 = $140,573
Rep - Population 4300(ish) - Per Capita Income $25.97 = $111,671

any further insight would be appreciated

wouldn't the turns lost be irrelevant since you made all that extra cash as a theo?

I'd be more interested in the defenses against LG's :P

I've played it quite successfully in the past, as have others.

It starts falling behind due to the tech difference, also the additional food costs start to seriously add up by the time you break 10 - 12k acres.

It's an ok strat if you go decay bonus and stockpile cash instead of food. The main benefit of theo is that it's quick to get going and does not need any government switches. The main drawback is that anyone can rape you with either missiles or stock stealing and that you get less income when teched up than republic or demo.

It's also a better land-trader than republic due to its higher BPT.

I made t5 with a theo decay casher but overall, I think rep decay casher is better.

Pros:
1. faster build speed.
2. additional income from +50% pop.
3. no need to switch to theo when you jump (if you do decay you jump straight from cash), and thus when you do jump, you're able to continue on cashing. rep can do this as well even jumping as a theo but I believe the theo has a slight advantage there.

Cons:
1. Lower tech and thus lower income versus a fully teched rep.
2. +50% pop = people eat more food, so your net income is also lower.
3. Missile risk in times of war.
