Has anybody heard about the supposed Martial Law that's supposed to take effect in America on Oct 1, 2013? I have been hearing a lot about it recently. Is it just propaganda or real. I guess we will know soon enough.

Martial Law is where the Government Authority(Troops) overrides Civilian Authority(Police) due to Police not being able to handle violence and crime/riots and mass civil disobedience. Military will have the rights to quell the violence that civilian authorities don't possess. Basically the military will use whatever force it feels necessary.
Basically your(Civilians) constitutional rights are suspended.

BTW I am prior Military and Law Enforcement(Corrections).

I never said it was announced by the US government first of all, I didn't tell you where I received this information. I never said that it would happen either, I am just asking if anyone else had heard anything about it. I was asking for opinions, there isn't any reason to get all hostile over a question. Just think, we are in civil unrest, there are mass shootings all over the place, there's talk of a government shutdown, that all can make people uneasy.

I know its hard to tell when people are being serious and when they are playing around. Believe or not I do have a sense of humor although it is a very dark one usually.

Why, no, Syko_Killa, I had not heard of this before. I don't frequent weird extremist conspiracy theory websites. However, in the past when this same thing has come up (including the last time we faced a gov't shutdown, post-Katrina, post-9/11, at the start of the Iraq and Afghan wars, etc.) I have been known to go take a look.

FEMA-related conspiracy theories have actually lasted through multiple presidencies and don't seem to be based on the party in office. Anarchists and crazies are kinda equal-opportunity. They tend to pick up some semi-crazies from whomever opposes the party currently in power as those semi-crazies are thirsty for anything that supports their "XYZ is EVIL and plans to destroy your life" belief. This seem especially true of the anti-Obama camp, but I am not sure if that is because its Obama, because he's black, because he's a Democrat or just because we have been getting crazier and crazier and he's the most recent President.

I tend to think the latter.

BTW, we are NOT in a state of civil unrest. Not even close. We just had close to 1M people go through DC (bikers and muslims at the same time) and there wasn't any rioting. A few crazy shooters getting extra media attention does NOT equal civil unrest.

When you see your state capitol building on fire with effigies of political leaders strung in the trees around it, that is civil unrest. Heck, even the looting in L.A. following the Rodney King trial was just local rioting, not a national crisis. The massive protests across the country by the Occupy movement broke laws in many cities simultaneously and wasn't considered civil unrest.

Civil unrest that would require martial law is when there is large amounts of damage to both property and life, no sign of it stopping or slowing down, beyond the control of local law enforcement, not localized to one area, etc. We aren't anywhere close to that.

Now if the NRA issued a call for all of its members to go out and shoot the nearest democrat on Oct. 1st, that might be another matter. :)

The significance of October 1st is that it's the day Obamacare health exchanges open and it's also the day the current Continuing Resolution (CR) expires (funding of government operaitons). Neither sound like martial law to me.
