Don't be cheap and pay for it. Well worth the 15 years I've used it.

And if you still want a free IRC client, pick one from this list:

Unfortunately, what you probably don't realize that the strength of mIRC isn't in the interface - it is in its modability and scripting capabilities (including custom dialog boxes)

I once wrote an entire bot 10 years ago in pure mIRC scripting that connected to GamersTown, login on my account, retrieved a spy op if available, and then logged out, in pure mirc script, and presented the result in IRC.

Of course, I eventually moved all that code into a separate .dll and had mIRC scripts call the .dll instead to do the same work much faster. That fact that mIRC is setup to interact with outside programs (such as what WinAmp is playing, it has an API for it) and libraries is a programmer's dream.

Yeah, but there are lots of websites out there that share scripts that other people have created, which you can download and install in mIRC. You don't have to be a programmer to use them.

(Of course, it is your onus to trust and run what you download.)

That's where the value is. If you don't want all these bells and whistles, then ya, that's why I gave you a wikipedia link with about 60 different clients to choose from.

By the way, many of these "scripts" you can download are actually games for IRC rooms, like trivia bots, UNO, Werewolf, etc, stuff like that.

Others are more for functional uses like sharing music files, (pirating by announcing a list of what you have to share to a channel), jukeboxes, and all sorts of bells and whistles.

Yeah, I once wrote a very powerful newsbot for Earth:2025, entirely in mircscript, and backed up by a database.

Then again, I also wrote some mircscript that simply bought 1 of something off the market over and over again, really fast...so some poor shrub logged in and couldn't load the main page because of all the market news.

Best irc client other than mirc and it's totally free. I switched to it after mirc and xchat asked me to pay to continue using them :(

They have all the old mIRC versions. I want to say 6.2 is preferred, its stable, still supported, and doesn't require you to register (I think). I am pretty sure it just prompts to register and you click cancel and its done, no force register.
