it doesnt matter what the taxes are set at, when your spending: revenue ratio is 1.5:1 you are not paying off debt. period.

My favorite repeated lie of the Obama administration is that, by pulling out of the wars, we will save all this money to allocate elsewhere, like education and infrastructure. Almost as if the money from wars is accounted for in the federal budget (we have one of those?) and not being borrowed.

Government employment is actually down over 600,000 jobs in the past 4 years.

The wars, stimulus spending and bailouts are the major culprits. Those are all items which can (and should) end, leaving overall government spending below levels when Obama took office. Ending the Bush tax cuts that lowered government revenue would further improve the spending:revenue balance. Why he lowered revenue when we had such high debt is beyond me.

That is, assuming anyone in Washington, from either party, is interested in addressing anything.

And people want to know one of many reasons why I do not vote.

1) all politicians are lying sons of fluffes who think with their wallet and could care less about the real people that matter.

2) your vote "DOES NOT" matter in a presidential election anyway as you only need to win the electoral vote not the popular vote.

And when I quote does not check it out. Clinton won even tho more people voted for the other guy both times. And Bush even got in once even tho more voted for the other guy. And then you add Obama who if memory serves right more voted for the white guy instead both times.

If you want to really know who to blame blame the dadgum Europeans. :)

lol he has shown leadership in many ways but biased opinion wont ever see it otherwise. If both sides wanted to solve this it would have been solved awhile ago.

Can we all agree people like Requiem who don't fully understand how their government works and still push with an opinion are part of the problem? People should care a little bit more about the legislative branch and the people they elect.

Absolutely. Obama is the weakest leader perhaps ever in the history of the presidency. It's pathetic. His relationship with Congress is the worst I can remember. What exactly did Obama 'give up' in these negotiations? He agreed to raise taxes on 400k+ rather than 250k+. He refuses to agree to any spending cuts, instead electing to increase spending. He expects Republicans to pass a deficit reduction bill that increases taxes to pay for new spending, not for deficit reduction? Unreal. Opposition to taxes is the cornerstone of Republican orthodoxy. His idea of compromise is to raise taxes by less than he originally wanted to? Anyone that says Obama gave up more than the Republicans is a liar and/or a fool.

Obama is an utter failure. How many Obama voters even knew what the fiscal cliff was when they voted for him?

Probably about the same number as Romney voters who knew what the "fiscal cliff" was, seeing as it's a total sham being used by both parties to scare people.

Oh Klowny...: "Obama is the weakest leader perhaps ever in the history of the presidency. It's pathetic. His relationship with Congress is the worst I can remember."

-Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, WARREN HARDING, Calvin Coolidge. ALL weaker leaders by far. So... read a book mk?

-You make it sound like it's Obama's fault he has a poor relationship with Congress. "Our only goal is to make sure that Obama is a one term president" - John Boehner (Republican speaker of the House). And you're going to blame this on Barry Obombs? Give your head a shake.

Horsefluff. Republicans gave up their number one principle, not increasing taxes. What did he give up? Nothing. What did we get? A piece of fluff bill that does nothing to address the massive deficit. But that will be Obama's legacy. Refusal to address the big budget problem that we all see coming.

Republicans had to give up their #1 principle because if they didn't then taxes could go up anymore, moreso than they do under the deal.

You act as though Obama showed poor leadership by not crompmomising, meanwhile he didn't need to comprimise because everything he wanted was already legislated to occur (reversal of the bush era tax cuts).

The fact that he got what he wanted proves that he won, not that he lost...

Yeah, Obama "won". He won an increase in taxes to pay for an increase in spending. The deficit remains unaddressed because Obama refuses to lead. Fortunately, the Republicans will have the leverage when the spending cuts come up again in two months.

It all depends on perspective.

If you believe that wealth is limited; then you will, by force, take it from the haves and give it to have nots (whether or not they earned or deserved it). You've morally justified your actions.

If you believe that wealth is limitless; then get what you earn, your wealth is a byproduct of your productivity. Forcefully taking someones fruit of their labor is morally wrong.

Public corporations are beholden maximizing profits. Individuals aren't.

Also, I personally don't believe in corporate taxes - just property and income taxes. I think the rich need to pay more in taxes but I have no issues with companies not paying any (in a Utopian society - not under our current system).

bro money is evil you know you can get all the money in the world and put it too all the debt in the world and we would not have enough to cover it.

its a world problem not just americans, the system is doomed to fail and the only way for it to survive is to cause inflation and in turn make more debt.

i got a lot of facts and numbers but it will take all day to point everything out. just think have you ever seen pricing like back in the 40s inflation has always been there, and there is no rebound coming.

I misread his post as income tax. My mistake. I do think my point is defensible because letting a temporary decrease expire is not the same as an increase. It's like saying you salary was cut because you didn't get a bonus - not technically true.

Call it whatever you want Detmer but if: my taxes are 20% and go to 30% that's a tax increase.

Also Obama care is the largest tax increase in the history of this country. Don't believe it's a tax? Consult the supreme court about that, they said it was a tax.

it sounds like detmer/req are having a glass is half full vs glass is half empty kind of discussion.

democrats see it as getting a 12 year tax break that is sunsetting, as was designed
republicans see it as a permanent tax increase that was for some reason not made permanent, but should have been
the rest of the G8 see it as a crazy tax system that should be completely overhauled, but won't be done because the entire US political system is destined to create gridlock and promote gradual corruption (mainly through campaign finance/lobbying/constant election cycles/lack of cooperation)
