Election observers believe that Ohio is the state most likely to decide who becomes our next President. These interviews were conducted with Ohio voters at a recent Romney rally in Defiance, OH.

I still don't get why the Democrats aren't going out in full force with TV ads proving how Romney has changed his stance so many times. His entire campaign went out the window during the debate. He backpedaled everything he had said up to that point. Most Americans haven't figured that out yet. CALL HIM OUT ON IT

The best part about this video is that it's taken at a Romney rally, meaning these are 'informed' people that care about their politics strongly enough to attend a rally... they're not just random people picked off the street. That said, it's not hard to find ignorant voters on either of the two major sides...

That is correct. The creators of the video have a very obvious agenda, and it would be just as easy to make a video that would paint Obama supporters in a similar light.

Romney supporters aren't too bright, but the Obama supporters are the same way. Although Obama supporters are more willing to change their mind when confronted with the truth.

Why? His R opponents said the same thing in the primary and it didn't stick. The reason is because the voting public doesn't see evolving stances on issues as a bad thing. Do you see tons of ads running that Obama was against gay marriage before he was for it? No, of course not because then your opponent can own both sides of it. Your ad would instead be to rural religious voters: Obama supports destroying the traditional family by promoting the homosexual agenda of gay marriage, gays in the military, etc. There are limited exceptions where the flops exceed the value of the actual issue.

The messages you see on tv have been through a barrage of message-testing survey instruments including polls, focus groups, and dynamic response surveys (ie, testing against your opponent's likely messages). The ads aren't dreamed up in a vacuum.

Now if you're going to argue both sides have over-extended the barrages well beyond saturation then I would tend to agree. Some of these buys have ridiculous GRP in DMAs that don't even cover more than half of the targeted area. The DC market is a good example. Expensive points (particularly for the key time slots) that will be shown in parts of WV, all of DC and significant portions of MD.

Rockman, one could argue that what you just said is basically the definition of fascism. Not the always negative connotation the word has, but the actual definition of the form of government. Communism is the government taking the business from the businessman. Fascism is the government leaving the business in control of the businessman, but controlling how he runs it. Socialism is really both and neither at this point in time. Those forms of government hate each other, historically, yet one (communism) is trumpeted as a graduated form of socialism and the other (fascism) has had socialism in the name (nazi's).

You could say the exact same thing for blacks voting for Obama. One could interview hundreds of black people, pick out the idiots that can't come up with a single reason to vote for him and and make a similar video. It means nothing.

Yea, I have to agree with locket, it doesn't make sense to pay for roads/infrastructure but *not* for health.... I'd take health over roads actually; and the military.

We could do both by simply extending military health benefits to the public, and funding more military doctors & nurses....

Fascism tends to also incorporate a strong sense of nationalism. I would not say that Obama has done that, although he has incorporated a lot of abuses of civil liberties in the name of the war on terror and war on drugs.

I call Obama a state capitalist, due to the influence of Murray Bookchin on my views. It is where the capitalists control the state and use the state as a weapon to protect their own interests. Small businesses cannot thrive in such a system, and can even be outlawed completely.

Question 7 in Maryland right now is an example of a state capitalist system. We currently have five casinos in Maryland, and that is all that is allowed by law. Question 7 would allow a sixth casino to open up, at an already determined location, and to be owned by an already determined group of capitalists. There are currently five casinos in Maryland, and it is completely illegal to start a business which competes with them. The market is completely closed. It is completely protected by the government. That is what state capitalism is. And that is what Republicans and Democrats embody.

I'm not sure if the strain of nationalism and the erosion of civil liberties by Obama and Romney has gotten to the point where we can call them fascists. But they are definitely very close.

Rockman, here's where we differ on this. You call it state capitalism, while I say it isn't capitalism at all. Rather it is fascism, where the government controls business. Capitalism is where the government does not have the power to control business. So state capitalism, by the very definition of capitalism, cannot exist.

I wouldn't advocate calling either fascists, but I wouldn't call them very far off either.

"Fascism" as an ideology can't really be nailed down that neatly, but you're generally right about its economics. However, you have our situation reversed: in reality today, business controls the government. They donate to the candidates, they flood the airwaves, and they buy elections. Folks from Goldman Sachs get appointed throughout the government. Folks from Congressional offices go back to lobbying firms and use their connections to influence votes. You sometimes get people from industries literally writing the bills. So it's not your "fascism," and it's not "state capitalism" either by normal definitions, since that usually means state-owned industries participating in market economies. No, this is just capitalism, the natural state of capitalism in our type of "democracy."
