The top 10% of every graduating class, in every high school in the state got automatic admission to UT...so maybe she should have gone to a less elite school. Of course there are other factors as well, and not just grades.

so, let me see, UT has like 38k undergrads, 12k postgrads, so roughly 50k students, and 24k staff. 1 staff member for every 2 students? no wonder they're rejecting applicants. not enough staff members to go around.

IMO, Texas system of 'affirmative action' is fair. Let the top 10% of every class in, there is nothing wrong with that. The University of Michigan system is wrong. This girl is a fluff, if she wanted in, she should have worked harder in high school.

top 10% are automatically accepted, then it goes to some kind of holistic acceptance policy. wonder how many of the 10% actually applied to be accepted? and how many people they are required to accept... probably a bunch of BS political crap related to her family and nothing to do with race or grades.

That said, affirmative action in general is terrible. The idea was that it was supposed to be a temporary stop gap not a permanent structure. Can we not get rid of it and laugh at this girl at the same time?

Also, many of the studies saying that white women are the primary beneficiary of affirmative action are flawed. Unfortunately, there is no scientific method in political science. I've read some of those studies and wonder how the researchers ever got into a position to write a paper on the subject. Oh, right, affirmative action.
