How much did I win?

1 million?
A Canadian "jackpot" of 25 million?
An American JACKPOT of 300 million?

It really depends.

13?

pay off all my debts, then put the rest in 104 savings accounts, and live off the interest the rest of my life (fdic only insures 250k or some fluff)

"Besides two chicks at the same time? Nothing."

Actually, first thing I'd do, as boring as it is, is pay off all my debts, including mortgage.

The one fun thing I'd do pretty much right away is buy a vacation home down in the Orlando area because my wife and I are huge WDW geeks.

I'm sure I'd find plenty of other ways to blow money, but my wife is very frugal and has pounded her frugality into me since we got married.

I went on a vacation earlier this year in Aruba.

It would be great to buy a condo there, spend some time on the beach, and attempt to write a book.

That would occupy at least the first year of time for me.

I once started writing a book,it was to be a murder mystery and my wife at the time griped and moaned about it so much that i gave it up.
After we divorced, i did not have the passion to write it. :)

Finish school and maybe a Master's. Purchase car and a house (modest, not huge.) At the same time, I'd invest the rest assuming a max term of 3 years on all investments.

Then upon completion of school, I'd work towards establishing a small, green-tech based, land development firm.

Probably start my own SCUBA tour company in Barbados, great diving down there

and get a modest sized boat so I could island hop at my leisure.

Any left I'd probably start up a small time engineering firm for entertainment, nothing big, just a think tank type deal

1) Buy a lot of land in the middle of nowhere.

2) Build houses for myself and any family members who might want to visit or reside on the land with me. They'd be close enough for easy access, but spread out enough for privacy. Using tree lines or topography to not allow line of site between homes would add to the illusion of privacy.

3) Put enough head of cattle on the land to qualify for agricultural tax benefits.

4) Prepare for the worst.

Global Thermal Nuclear War? Zombie Apocalypse? Alien Invasion? Financial Dark Ages?
When whatever will happen happens, everyone will want to be on the Viceroy Fanatically Religious Reinforced Compound and Dude Ranch.

All this talk about winning the lottery reminds me of the afore mentioned ex.
We used to play the numbers religiously, hoping for that big lick.
I got up one morning to see her sitting wide-eyed with a big grin, holding our last nights Power Picks.
She asked me what i was gunna do with my half,i told her i was leaving her miserable ass.
She flipped me the ticket, told me to pack my fluff, hit the highway and mail her $6 to her. :(

Invest it all. At 4% annually that is still 520k/year. After taxes it is still a lot. By the time I finish my PhD it would be over $14M so I wouldn't feel bad blowing $1M on a sweet house. Then I'd just spend the rest of my life having fun, which probably means playing this game.

Where you getting 4%? You can't get that on a 10 year CD....

I suppose I'd look into investment real estate. With cash at a premium it seems like a good time to do that. Sadly without any income I dunno how much leverage one could use, but 13 million should still return a decent amount of cash.

Not well thought out.... if you're getting 4% intrest (which you won't even with a cd now) you lose money because of the 6% inflation.... And you couldn't even get introduced to jessica simpson for 13 million! LOL! :)

Now, 4% is pretty unrealistic. I have faith that it will come back. 1% will tide me over until then.

How much of a castle could I build with that....?

The construction costs of Neuschwanstein to the king's lifetime amounted to 6.2 million mark
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuschwanstein_Castle

The Goldmark was on a gold standard with 2790 Mark equal to 1 kilogram of pure gold
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_gold_mark

(6200000/2790) == 2 222.22222 kg

Gold in Canadian Dollars per Kilo = 41348.55 * 2222.22 = $91 885 666.7

with cheap 1884 labour... hmm i wonder if you could build it for that now....
Finally did the signature thing.
