I wound up having to format after some cheese-fluff dropped a Worm into my system and hideously skullfluffed my system like Attila the Hun. Now, after 20+ hours later I am just barely re-installing.

hahahaha Hey, protection is free. LOL

I use Microsoft Security Essentials, a free download, and it keeps my system protected. LOL

Also, it pays to have a backup. It takes me about an hour to completely restore my system, that includs installing the OS and recoverning all my data.

Cerberus, I have everything backed up on external hard drives... it was having to take 20+ hours to format C: itself. I finally had to use a DOD 5220.2M format to wipe the bastard before I could even re-use it.

-re-install
-copy home folder

but then again, you wouldnt have a virus on linux :P

First, while formatting thru Windows Setup, it had stalled at 48% complete. I'd left it alone for three hours and had left with some friends to enjoy the evening. When I came back, it had blue screened. After attempting some other methods, I'd nearly given up before realizing I had a program I could run through DOS that would format it with a DOD 5220.22-M method. I used that, and viola!

I am thinking the same. So tomorrow, I am getting a new hard drive, makes it more convenient to have everything I don't want to lose on that instead of having to format C: every fluffing time and lose -virtually everything- :(

ghost backups are a wonderful thing NightShade. ya might consider it for future problems. just remember to update your ghost regularly and full system scans before hand.

just get you a good ghost software like NortonGhost or something and clone your primary partion to the second drive. then when your hdd screws up, just overwrite with the clone.
