I'm looking to get a new entertainment laptop (PC, don't know anything about Macs).

Looking for:
The best quality regardless of price under $2000
Sturdy so if it bumps something its not done for
Good quality sound and video
Fast for web surfing and running basic programs
Long battery life and battery that won't die in a year

alienware has a wicked laptop out there - can't say I know much about it, other than it's supposed to have the best of the best of everything in it, it was fast as all get out, has some killer speakers and a huge screen, and it runs about $1800 at the local PC shop - they keyboard had some LED functionality as well, but I didn't check that out too thoroughly.

the specs that marshal poster were his build of the alienware laptop that i posted a link to earlier in the thread. the one that i said i built a 14K version of on their site.

say what you will about my ability to logically deduce, but it wasn;t written or otherwise stated that it wasn't his. in fact, the final 4k short of fordy's could easily be construed to mean that he shaved four grand off his price.

and, to the point of my question, who gives a fluff what computers cost twenty five years ago.

you could also question my realizing at the time that a 1950's computer was a lot bigger than a 1986 computer, and would not have taken up the main floor of his house.

based on what you want you need wife (which you have already) and it costs more than 14k.

as for originial asker: aw's laptops have (at least had before dell bought it) good reputation and any of m1xx's is in your price range.

i like my Inspiron Duo. it's not a gaming system, but works fine for music and video on battery. i'd probably put battery life around 3 hours, but i only do it an hour at a time.

lol, i probably wont spend more than $500 on a computer for the rest of my life. i dont even game. i just have way too much fun going on manufacturers sites and maxing out the specs and looking at the insanity of it all.
