New standard for instant messaging?

The majority of people will have a smart phone in some form soon, if they don't already. Does anyone use "What's app"? It's an IM linked to your phone number, so is effectively free SMS (the app has a one-off cost of $1 for iphone users), and at the same time is a pretty handy IM program. Has been pretty cool so far, means I can chat to the other leaders in Sanct (who are mostly in America) for free whenever I need to (I'm in Australia)

hey tell is the best, similar to nextell/verizon push to talk, but runs through data. FREE as long as you have data or are near wifi. Heytell is on the android market and iphone store

that heytell thing sounds exactly the same as whats app, but i have a feeling whats app may be more popular :p (it's certainly the only one that i've heard of in Australia)

I use an equivalent to whats app called 'liveprofile' on my blackberry, it's pretty good.

its nice dustfp, if you have constant internet. if you're abroad it'll only work with wifi, which limits it there.

Works fine with 3G, which means I can use it pretty much anywhere :p

I'm an Aussie and I use whatsapp. It runs off your data usage, but it's practically nothing. I've sent/received 3,500 messages and a few dozen pictures and it's used only 6 meg.

All the FA's should start an EE Google+ Hangout that people can pop into and out of at any time. It supports audio/video sharing too, so it could be more fun.
