if doctors knew anything good, we'd be able to live forever. i didn't read anything to be able to refute the doctor's opinion. don't even see where it's stated that he hit his head period.

typically when you fly over the handlebars on an expressway/highway you hit your head.

im sure he had physcial head injuries that they determined to be the cause. im sure the doctor didnt just make it up to make their protest look bad. of course him claiming the guy would have survived with a helmet is purely specualtion and certainly not 100% true.

you got to be a complete moron not to want to wear a helmet on a full powered motorcycle... seriously.

I understand and agree with some of the arguements against helmets on bicycles in certain environments, but anyone that rides a motorcycle, even a vespa:p without a helmet is embracing death!

He made a decision knowing the possible consequences. I really don't care if folks want to wear helmets or not, but if they choose to regularly ride without a helmet then their insurance premiums should be adjusted accordingly. In other words, how you run your life is your business until it impacts others--in this case, financially, so you bear the burden.

Helmets are there to save lives... why in the world would you not want to save your own life... people in cars don't wear helmets cause they got pretty much with the vehicle they are driving... motorcylists have only them and pavement.. and posibly a reoccuring motorcyle...

Even on bicycles I've landed on my head a few times, imagine doing that at full speed on a motorbike... (granted i probably wouldn't be doing jumps on a motorbike, but you never know)

Dibs - I don't think you should HAVE to wear a helmet, just that the arguments against doing so are utterly ridiculous and speculative.

At the same time though, if you flip your bike and crack your head open like a ripe cantaloupe, I don't think anyone should be required to give a damn other than to scrape you off the freeway so you don't slow down my commute.

i feel the same way about any accident. though i might be losing my road rage since i gave up driving to commute.

only arguement i have is that it violates my freedom by requiring me to wear a helmet. violates my freedom by requiring me to wear a seatbelt.

the most dangerous threat to a motorcycle rider is the people in the cars who don't see them, and you're going to quibble about whether or not they need a helmet to survive that accident.

It's a no-brainer to know that you should wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle. I've always been in favor of not having helmet laws just for that reason.

Now, if we can only get rid of the warning label system that the government enforces and let Darwin's theory take it's true effect. Then we wouldn't have to deal with so many stupid people that are outbreeding us and outvoting us, which is exactly why the Government wants them to live, they can make a decision on a candidate with a 10 second sound bite and a flattering picture.

theres a large difference, and the only one that costs people who pay for insurance is brain surgery since insurance doesnt cover burial. unless you have life insurance that is.

Essentially what QZ said - I don't give a damn if you feel put upon being forced to do what normal/rational/intelligent people do naturally - I'll be damned if you should be allowed to waste my tax dollars by making 10 cops, 7 paramedics, a medivac copter, and enough fire trucks to put out Arianna Huffington's flames come out to scoop your brains into a Tupperware to give to your family.

If you don't want to take reasonable precautions, then I should be allowed to refuse my portion of taxes going to grant you the services you haven't earned the right to accept.

Pain, i think you were talking about qzjul. i do live 25 miles from Philly and do commute to it, though i take the bus. and i am no longer a car owner. IRS, clutch, insurance and inspection, all coming due at the same time made me decide i just plain don't have the money to keep driving right now, especially since everything i need, but work is within a mile of me.

LOL. i started questioning the wisdom of driving when i realized it took me an hour to get to work. 25 miles, 1 hour = 25 mph. in a car with a speedometer that goes up to 150 mph and tires rated for 130 mph. dang mopeds could beat me to work.
