the hdmi output will go into a computer monitor, or will you be using an hdtv as your monitor?

(this is what I want to do, but my computer doesn't have an hdmi output..)

Gives me wood.

Keep the LED light on the fan though, too annoying.

Kudos.

LED is fine when it's hooked to a monitor, but when you hook it up to the TV, I find it very distracting in low light settings. But porn on 55" is primo.

Nice rig. I was speccing one out the other day. Been thinking about giving this one to my youngest daughter for her Bday in August and building a new one for myself.

Looking at a setup pretty similar to yours but with different manufacturer parts. Looks like I can do one for maybe $700. Newegg just rocks if you know what you're looking to build.

What OS are you using? Win7?

Hey, upgrades are always fun. My PS3 that had it's old 80GB Seagate take a fluff on me... upgraded to a 250GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue. Now, my PS3 has a larger hard drive, it's backwards compatible and it still beats the fluff out of the slim models! :P

Bsnake - that looks like a nice rig.

Can I suggest maybe a 1TB drive for storage and the like?

Donny - I want your monitors. I'm assuming that is either a hardcore gaming rig, or you do some sort of graphic design/video editing on it?

How does the Caviar Black compare to Sata II 3.0 GB drives?

I spashed out on a dedicated music production PC about 6 months ago.

ASUS PSDX58 MB
i7 950
24gb Patriot Viper Sector 7
1 x Patriot Inferno 128gb SSD
1 x 160gb Velociraptor
2 x 500gb WD Blue (I think) HDDs
Basic Video Card
M-Audio 2496 audio card (10 year old technology still works great)
2 x 22inch monitors

I'm really really tempted to grab a revodrive or a revodrive x2 in the next couple of months and move some of my samples to that.

Nice - are you going to RAID 0 the raptors?

In these days why go with a noisy raptor when u can have a quiet, cold and super fast ssd.

Would be fun to be able to upgrade yearly, but i guess my 1,5 year old rig, bought for bout 3k dollars, is still enough to at least play earth empires, but still a new 160-320gb ssd would be nice instead of my old intel 80gb.

Not a bad Machine BS. I was looking at that motherboard for my next PC, but decided I'd go with the gigabyte assassin instead.

Donny, a nice config indeed.

i was going to set up a raid, that was my main reason for having 2 drives, i lost 3 HDD's(all external) at my old house and no idea why they failed and lost a bunch of photo's etc...

i will wait till i get the machine at home and go from there...

The reason i went with those drives is my mate has been using them and where i keep my PC desk the nosie is not really an issue...

I do a lease/buy on the machine for tax reasons, mean i pay more than i should for the PC but i know in 2/3 years it will be be decent enough, has worked out for me so far(well till my last one blew a mobo/vid card... i really do think that house was cursed...

There is a great util for recovering data:

Runtime's Get Data Back v4.22 is the latest. Works great. Can even find stuff on partitions you've formatted multiple times.
