I've gotten so used to xchat on linux, mIRC just about kills me...

was helping somebody get set up and decided I should share this with anybody else out there who doesn't really like mIRC....

xchat 2 for windows, free version!

http://www.silverex.org/download/

no good monospace fonts in windows though so:

ftp://ftp.gnome.org/...f-bitstream-vera-1.10.zip

copy into your fonts dir, have to restart xchat to get them to work if you started it already

Bitstream Vera Sans Mono
Size 9

then launch, set up irc etc etc....

Preferences, get to the colours bit!

Background: #000000 (black!!)
Foreground: #52F463
colours 14/30: #059AFF
colours 15/31: #5ED4D8

I can use IRC on windows now :)

You used to be able to right click on the channel and select something to do with colors. As far as I can tell, they removed that in the newest version.

This is what their guys said on the bug report for it (which exists in multiple forms):

---

Use http://orvp.net/xchat/edittopic/ to retain the topic color codes when editing. So you don't have to re-enter them.

Additionally, you can ctrl+shift+u+2 to get the bold character, and ctrl+shift+u+3 for color in the topic area. Still, would be a RFE.

I always used to use Mirc, but I'm not paying again for the new version, previously I had an ancient version.

Trillian I didn't really like. I'll look into Irssi hopefully it doesn't have viruses.
Not posting on AT as much because Maki/Steeps gave back some of my forums on GHQ. RIP my decade long blog, my blog even had replies from people who are no longer with us :(.

I was trying to remember the last windows based chat I used but it's been too long. I uses SysRest or something to that effect back in the day, but I think that was actually a shell for mIRC.

Marshal: no, but I assume they use windows fonts, and there is no good windows font for IRC...

fonts for IRC *neeed* to be monospace; but they also need to look good at size 8-10, and all windows fonts that are monospace that i've seen (ie the ones you typically would have in an installation with windows + ms office & all that) suck

Bitstream Vera Sans Mono FTW! (that's the terminal font in ubuntu)
