just a quick question -- were/are any of you into modding games? ie the Civilization series (which has a big mod community), old hex editing communities, warcraft scenario making, etc

i'm not talking about soft modding your wii or hard modding your ps3, more about creating player-made content.

just wondering :p

I used to be big into the Civ2 modding community back in high school -- I made the awesome Cold War scenario that got like 45k downloads
I'm thinking that some of my future ideas will need to rely on players creating balanced maps and stuff

civ 3 and civ 4 are awesome if ur wondering. I used to mod civ 3 alot but i forgot how and when, sry my post is of no use to you lol.

You want to make some good money--develop better mapping software for legislative redistricting. There is one program I know of that's free using silverlight, but it's pretty weak

I don't even know where to get started with US redistricting, so I'm out. :p

I do the warcraft 3 scenario. Now im trying the Starcraft 2

I used to make scenarios in Warcraft and Age of Empires (a lot of AoE).

And I know this isn't the kind of map making you mean - but I have to make maps for my work regularly =P

I used to develop new areas in think-heavy MUDs, lol. (aka they were very involved and you had to pay attention to clues and find keys to get to new areas/find new gear)

used to make maps for HOMM3 ... but then i got into programming and started to spend my free time writing code instead :P

I did a fair bit in starcraft, civ 3, civ 4 and years before that in Armour Alley on the mac...



Also I forgot, I also did quite a bit with Rome Total War...

I beat Age of Empires once.

he made some awesome SC maps, and is a computer programmer buy trade.

lol i used to make my own areas and maps in elder scroll 3: Morrowind :P i thought it was cool. ;)
