I was in Snowpocalypse just 3 years ago here in Baltimore.. 64" of snow in 2 days.

Sandy might be a nonevent, but it might also cut power to everyone in the US east of Ohio and north of Virginia.

The part that's funny to me is seeing people buy every store in the city out of water. All I've done to prepare is walk to the sink and fill my Camelbak and 2 Nalgenes, and get my Katadyne ready to refill.

I've never noticed, with a total blackout does cell service still work?

Cell towers should have backup generators, usually runs off propane.

soooo, galleri, we still talking about Boltar here or the storm? Cuz I've heard from a reliable source that he packs at least a Category 4 with a hell of a surge

The storm. But the real question here is, why you never told us you were HOUSE.

I hear that a lot, and I do have a limp too. sadly, I'm not smart or sarcastic enough to truely pull it off

Unless the cell tower topples over.

what i'm currently seeing, is about an inch of water in the middle of the parking lot and no wind. maybe 10 mph wind? hmm, maybe these trees are shielded by the building. it'll probably pick up later. hopefully mosquitoes won't start breeding in my bathtub before i can get rid of the standing water.

hmmm, if the wind is coming out of the N-NW, and the hurricane is coming from the S-SE... maybe it's all canceling out above me.

I used to be part of a cell provider's emergency response team volunteer group.

The towers have battery backups (usually a few hours) and then generators (usually with another 6-18 hours of fuel). After that, they need to be refueled.

The problem is the refueling when they are in high water (like Katrina) and/or if the diesel generator is underwater.

not sure what the Delaware is doing. but i'm bored. no tornadoes. no lightning. no big wind. just a measly little drizzle when compared to Texas rain.

I ran errands earlier today, nobody was out doing anything.. however most of the stores had a full staff. I plan on walking around the Patterson Park area of Baltimore around 1am this morning just to experience the 80+ mph winds.. and to take pictures.

i walked 3.8 miles today. wind was a bit stiff when facing North, but it didn't knock me off my feet. think storm surge is probably going to be the most damaging. poor rich people and their beach front insured properties.

LOL. what for? because rich people can afford insurance? you can afford to pay for insurance for property that can be wiped out in a single storm?
