Its a Colt 1911A1 Gold Cup National Match. Basically an accurized version of the US Army issue .45 ACP. Colt made them from just after WWII through the 70s.

The 1911A1 was adopted in the early 1920s? I think. Just an updated version of the orignal.

The most beautiful rifle on the planet is the Korean War era m14. I want two. One to shoot and one to hold.

you can get a M1A which is basically a civilian M14. Semi-automatic only. I have a SOCOM 16, which is a carbine length M1A. Same action as an M14.

But to me the most beautiful rifle is the M1 Garand. Still havnt found one in good condition in my price range. One day.

I was mistaken, they didn't start making the National match until 1957. They started making it again in the 2000s, but the new ones are trash cashing in on the name of the originals. Ford apparently didn't read the answer.

Its ironic that the M14 is similar to the Garand in many ways - except the Garand was one of the finest battle rifles ever issued and the M14 was literally hot garbage that the ordinance folks cobbled together to keep US troops from adopting a european rifle. It was our shortest lived infantry rifle for a reason.

Full auto 7.62x51 is not reasonable in any way. And the rifle was heavy as fluff with the wood stock.

M14 with a 20 round magazine was almost 11 pounds.
First M16s with a 30 round magazine is around 8 pounds.

10 more rounds and 3 less pounds is a big deal.
