Sof is a quiet netgaining alliance, much beloved by the rest of the server...lots of old timers who were around ten years ago too.
sof.earth2025.net

On serious note, i'd recommend omega or the monsters - they're both much more laid back netting alliances

Let me start by saying that I am a deist who does not believe in organized religion, and was not raised in a christian faith.

I have no issue with the idea of atheism, and I do not believe that you need a foundation in religious belief to be a moral person. However, I consider being clergy for a faith you do not believe in hypocritical at best, and unfair to your parishioners. These "secret atheists" should resign, and should do so quietly. If they are in the clergy to help people, then they should pursue a career in social work.

As far as the comparison to coming out, it works in the sense that you were living a lie, and have stopped doing so. Where it breaks down is in the direct betrayal of your flock, especially if you preach a fundamentalist faith like the subject of that article. A closer analog would be confessing adultery to a longtime partner, especially one who you had put through the ringer for your perception of their infidelity. But instead of one person, you betrayed the entire congregation.

I also have a big problem with people forcing their religion on others, and that includes the absence of religion. Whether or not you believe in religion personally, faith can be a path to happiness and improved life for others.

our economy would be utterly crippled by a recklessly unregulated financial sector, we would have lost thousands of young men to a war that squandered our ability to actually make the word safer for our interests, and we would have spent billions bailing out the folks who killed the economy, while telling the rest of the population that this is an adjustment, and that anyone over 55 to enjoy their involuntary retirement ... oh wait that's what happened with Bush. I have a hard time believing that Gore could have done a worst job.

Kaos:

You forget that if the US had made separate peace with the Japanese, the Soviet Union would've been fighting a war on two fronts instead of just one. Japan needed the resources and oil in siberia just as much as hitler needed the oil in the Caucasus.

I'm happy that our troops are out of harms way there, proud of their conduct (with very very few exceptions), and hopeful that they will have an easy integration back into society. They were given a nearly impossible task, which they performed admirably, all too often with personal sacrifice. This country owes a debt, especially to those who have been wounded, physically or otherwise, and we must not renege on it, as we have for the veterans of previous wars.

As far as the question of victory, time will tell if we had success or not. If the government and infrastructure we left there is able to provide stability and more freedom than saddam, then mission accomplished. I am not sure if a conflict like that of the past decade can be measured with words like winning or victory.

I am still very angry at Bush & co. for setting our ability to conduct effective foreign policy in the region, as well as the secularization of Iran back a couple of decades, while undermining the secular government of Turkey. The tragic events of 9/11 gave us a lot diplomatic capital to make a difference in the middle-east to reduce the influence and numbers of the fundamentalists, and the invasion of Iraq squandered all of it.

The neo-con premise that the answer in the middle-east would be to simply go in and break a few heads is the single largest blunder in the history of the executive branch of this country.

I believe british libel laws apply to material written or published outside of the UK, provided that the defamed party is resident in the UK. Quite frankly, I don't see how this is different.

I'd also like to see keeping what you kill - countries that participate in a kill run get to divide the assets of the dead country based on number of hits.

I guess my campaign to get bacon declared a vegetable failed. Need to get my super pac off the ground, so I can buy congress over to my side next time this issue comes up.

If there's something to be pissed off about here, it's the naked expression of the power of special interest groups, and the gullibility of the populace to be swayed by those same lobbies.

The equation for congress' involvement here is pretty simple: the federal government subsidizes (pays for a portion of) school lunches for kids whose parents can't otherwise afford them (reason 1 for governmental involvement). Many of kids who receive the federal subsidy are on medicaid, so the government pays for their health care (reason 2). Obesity is endemic in this country, and leads to health issues, requiring the government to shell out more money for medicaid and medicare (reason 3).

1) xMLx never confirmed your police action which is typical of any policing, and thus your action is not valid

2) If this were anything other than SoF creating a fluffstorm for all of their pacted allies, you would personally contact them and give them a real warning of 24-48 hours because not everyone reads the forums, and members of alliances don't even read their own forums every 24 hours.

3) You threaten pacted alliances every set for "two-stepping" on "your" suiciders yet two-step every chance you get. Either add it to your pacting terms or stop pretending like you rule the server.

PS this doesn't affect me in any way; I'm not a part of any alliances involved, but as an outside observer, this looks like a typical SoF-wants-war-so-let's-bully-everyone-into-it move.

This is not a new policy - we have had it for several resets. We do not need to notify every alliance that we are enforcing a long standing policy. If your alliance hasn't notified us that you are retalling land grabs specifically this set, does that mean that we don't have to recognize your retals?

SoF is making this announcement out of courtesy.
