That depends on your definition of dead doesn't it. I think if you asked anyone who doesn't play this game whether it's dead - and especially if you explained the history vs today, etc - 90% of people would agree it died ages ago. It can still be fun, but for all intents and purposes we're fluffing a corpse here.

I liked to use names of clans that aren't active when I'm a 1 man tag. Even if I never played in them. I used CWG and UCN for a few weeks last year.

After looking through past posts I see most were referring to BH's recruits and the resulting attack/retaliation/quitting. So that's not really representative of everybody clearly. While looking up those posts I reread Auk's post from August and I like several of the suggestions:

- Drastically decrease expenses and food consumption;
- Drastically decrease the cost to construct buildings; and
- Drastically increase build per turn.

I disagree on the following:

"Adding expenses to clan GDI will likely result in a meta where most netters will stop using clan GDI to stay competitive for netting purposes. Then we'd be back to square one with problems unsolved."

If ClanGDI is the surest way to avoid griefing, players will pay the price to preserve their netting ability. Meaning it's not a disadvantage to netting if everybody is paying the price (or nearly everybody). The only way to net without it would be careful diplomacy / good PR, and that still carries some risk of griefing.
In a game where most things have been optimized by the player base, if you introduce a feature that is very powerful and allows them to accomplish their goal more reliably and predictably, you have to add a cost. Without a cost it becomes a mandatory way to play the game to remain competitive. With the right cost it becomes one option among many and adds depth to the game.

I'll try and find my previous posts about it and summarize the replies here, hopefully today.

As I've said before, the only real solution is to grow the player base, and several players have been outspoken against that idea because "one time we tried and it backfired". They're like cancer patients refusing to take chemotherapy because it's unpleasant... you can follow the analogy to the natural conclusion.

With all the antisemites feeling emboldened by the Israel war, a lot of Jews are afraid to put up their menorahs this year. I built a big fluffin holder to place in front of our window, with platforms at two different levels so I and my kids can display ours in the window and be clearly visible from the main road from any angle.

Let's purple every country this set and have the bots take the top ten. They're the only ones who are playing the way the developers intended.

There are 53 countries in Team and at most 125 active human players in Alliance, even though alliances can have as many members as you want and Teams are limited to 5. If the team member limit was raised to 15 I think many would move to that server.

I've posted several times that there are going to be many players showing up as 2025 gets near. We should be making an effort to retain them for the game's sake. I'd bet most will start on Alliance server and leave for Teams though.

I am none of those people. Although I did interact with all of them way back in the previous millennium as I was FA for DJustice for the first several resets they existed. And I used to post on AT a lot under the name MAZ.

There may come a day when this whole site and all the forums are lost to time just like the original AT was. Imagine thousands of collective hours spent discussing wars and netgaining, clan rankings, mergers and splits, all lost forever on the original AT. The same will likely happen here. And when the game shuts down and what's left of the community is no longer engaged, nobody will ever look at the clan rankings, top ten, NW records, or any of this. I think that's terrifying for some people lol.

I mean the only way to fix it is to dramatically increase the player base but it seems that has been tried by some and discouraged by many. Bots, ClanGDI, and all the other additions of recent years are stopgap measures that just prolong the inevitable.
