anyone have a clue why i can't access the admin page anymore? XP gives me a diagnose connection page, and Win 7 won't let me continue with the https certificate. maybe if i drink more booze, i'll be able to type https://192.168.1.1 in a more capable manner. can't remember the model number... W54 mbps g with speed boost.

maybe if i email the CIA and FBI and get them to give me permission...

You may not have to use https protocol, try just using http.

i turned off http access. it required https to connect to it. i probably changed settings in IE on those computers that won't let it work properly.

hmm. maybe not. MS updated something, or somebody updated my router without my permission.

Just do a hard reset

don't think it'll help any. i think MS updated something and it won't use the certificate. so, if i do a hard reset, then i'll reconfig everything and it won't let me connect again. or it won't let me admin it at all and i'll be stuck with default settings.

i reset ie settings on both computers and still can't connect. so, if i do a hard reset, then i'll probably want to reflash the firmware because something is goofy with the router. and if that fixes things, then i'm stuck with trying to figure out how it got compromised and how soon it'll happen again.

definitely an MS error. i grabbed a cross and some holy water and resurrected(sp?) my Inspiron 8100 with a fresh install of XP, and it let's me access the admin page. buggy updates.

You went through an install for a router? I see a few issues.

1.Dell
2. Xp
3. Old router

Upgrade all 3, problem solved.

i went thru an install to verify that MS changed something recently. whatever they changed won't let the newer updated junk connect to the router.

i already solved the problem. i'll just use the older computer to config the router.

you're as bad as xbox tech support telling me that i need to turn on file and printer sharing to stream video. was working fine until y'all updated the xbox... i didn't change anything. y'all did. fix it or i quit buying videos.

you probably contracted some kind of malware that's messed up your hosts file or firewall rules. I'm no MS advocate, but I know they would never intentionally deny you access to 192.168.*.*, you've obviously overlooked something and all you have is a PEBKAC issue.

LOL. Win 7, XP, and ie on the xbox will not connect to the admin page. it may not be intentional. probably just a bug with something they updated. you're essentially talking about 3 different things getting infected with the same piece of malware.

where's it coming from? my ASUS router? why isn't ie affected on the fresh install?

add another Win 7 computer that can't connect to the admin page...

There's a reset procedure which lets you return the router to it's factory condition.

i removed it anticipation of getting a smartglass device for my xbox. was probably something to do with the security certificate. MS probably doesn't want self-signed certificates anymore.

oh, and just in case people want to know. i re-enabled http access on the Linksys router using my ancient Inpsiron 8100, and Win7 works fine with it now. didn't even have to reset it.
