The captchas are getting absolutely,ridiculously hard to type..

i agree with snawdog that captchas are getting ridiculous, some words can't be found on english dictionary.

the recaptcha's are from recaptcha.org

not being dictionary words is probably the point, they're fragments of books that the OCR can't figure out... they're meant to be something a bot can't figure out, which turns out to be increasingly difficult

i think that captcha was hacked recently.

the Captcha is crazy sometimes. I think i remember seeing Alpha letter once... Or the letters are very hard to see or understand... is that a period or a comma, 1 or l or | or I?

ee-captchas are nothing compared to 3rd bonus turns site's captcha, small black letters+blue background="very" visible.

CC verification probably has been in the Admins' minds for a while, the only issue is with the security of side of things.

Maybe instead of CC, we use paypal, and a donation required for those that do want to skip capcha ... $0.01 minimum!

I have never been denied entry just guessing with 0 thought. Either I'm fluffing awesome at captcha's or they allow you to be quite wrong...

The easy to understand captcha words are the ones you need to type correctly to get it, the ones you can't understand or are harder to type are the ones used to trip up bots. If you've passed every captcha, it just means you can read the easy words :P Which isn't that hard.

^^ Agreed! There is definitely a fault tolerance, because I have purposely spelt things wrong to test hehe

the way it works is that 1 word is "known" and one is "unknown"

if you get the "known" word right, that's all you need regardless of what you type for the second

the "unknown" one gets answered by you and many others, and an algorithm helps figure out what the unknown word would be. Once it's known, it's fed back into the captchas as a "known" word.

as far as a computer science research project, recaptcha is one of the best idea's I've seen in a long time... but as a security measure, it's still very flawed though

that, along with the fault tolerance, would be why you're able to guess so loosely :p
