how old is the laptop, and what model?

does it beep while it's loading windows, or it just beeps on boot and doesn't load anything?

what is the screen stuck on? is it possible to enter the BIOS?

I had to replace the motherboard 3 times and the graphicscard once in my first laptop, I'm not getting a second one...

think my Inspiron 8100 won't boot at all when the primary battery is dead, even when it's plugged in, think i had to charge it for 5 mins or so before it would boot.

pull the battery on the msi and see if it will boot.

Otherwise if you aren't getting any lights/noises could be the power cord if you're lucky otherwise the MoBo probably

Check to make sure all parts are seated properly and the screws are tight.

was the best i could come up with, most of my laptops have survived a toss across the room. think i might've killed the DVD drive in the 8100 though. and no, the hinges on the display died from old age, i tossed it across the room a while after i removed the display.

I'm serious when I say try hitting and shaking the laptop.

If necessary unscrew the cover and wiggle pieces around individually.

no, the lithium ion dealy-bob. i have 2 of them, the secondary gets plugged into the floppy port. if i leave the laptop unplugged for an extended period of time, the primary battery gets drained, and even though the secondary is fully charged, it won't boot up until the primary has like a 3% or so charge in it.

it's technically headed to the dump because the monitor hinge broke, and i can't afford to send it to an old computer home. throw it a quarter if you see it on a street corner trying to panhandle money for an operation.

This ain't no under-the-table business. It's quite the opposite and there should be no qualms about it.

yup, no cmos battery would have just that effect - nothing to tell it to start from the mains when the battery is flat
