10x - x = 9.999... - 0.999...

That part doesn't seem right because both sides would need an "x" to subtract "1x" from both sides, right?.At that stage you should be able to only divide 10 on both sides... unless my math skills are that rusty.

Example:

5x + 1 = 2x +9
-2x -1 = -2x -1
----------------
3x = 8
/3 = /3
--------
x = 8/3

Another example...

5x - 1 = 9
+1 = +1
----------------
5x = 10
/5 = /5
--------
x = 2

You cannt add or subtract an "x" if the number doesnt have an "x" like this example...

5x - 1 = 9
+1 = +1
----------------
5x = 10
-1x = -1x
--------
4x = -x + 10


x would equal 2 in this example when done properly.

I know that kindegarden arithmetics is magik and it is a feat to do it "properly" but what's wrong with 5x-1+1=9+1 or 5x-1x=9-1x?

Exactly. It's like adding and removing x from one side, essentially adding 0

-x + x = 0
-x = -x

10x = 10x
10x - x + x = 10x
10x -x = 10x - x
